Betty L. Decker

Betty L. Decker, 80, of Abbotsford, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 27 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 4:00 PM at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Abbotsford Public Cemetery.

 

Betty was born October 7, 1933 to Dr. Laverne and Florence (Patock) Olson in St Croix Falls. She attended school in St Croix Falls and went on to the University of Wisconsin in Madison to become a music and english teacher. She taught many years in elementary education in the Colby School District until her retirement at the age of 65.

 

She was a member of Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church in which she played organ, piano and was the head of the choir for over 50 years.

 

Betty enjoyed playing bridge, music, reading, playing scrabble, puzzles and watching the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers.

 

Betty is lovingly survived by her children; Tom Decker of Abbotsford and Susan (Jay) Westberg of Wausau, grandson; Joseph (Nicole) Westberg of Fenwood. She is further survived by 2 brothers; Donald (Doris) Olson of St Croix Falls and Gerald (Loa) Olson of Cocoa, FL and 2 sisters; Eileen Maki of New Brighton, MN and Patricia Crea of Saint Paul, MN and many nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents.
