Cornelius “Neil” Micke, (77), of Stetsonville, Wisconsin, suffered a cardiac event in his home and passed away at Aspirus Medford on August 7, 2023.
Neil was born to Clarence and Anna (Stuttgen) Micke, on February 26, 1946, in Stanley, Wisconsin. He graduated from Gilman High School in 1964 and subsequently received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Master of Science from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Neil served in the United States Army from 1968-1970 and saw active combat in Vietnam. He achieved the rank of SPECIALIST 4 and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart upon discharge from his service.
Neil met and married his lifelong sweetheart while attending the
University of Nebraska and they married in 1971. He managed the Iowa State and University of Missouri dairy farms before moving back to Gilman and settling on the home farm, Mile Away Swiss. There, Neil and Linda raised their beloved children, Jeremy and Rachel, and managed an internationally-known herd of Brown Swiss until their retirement in 2004.
In addition to farming, Neil was an active member in 4-H, parish, and
community affairs, and continued those into retirement while also being involved in district and state level Knights of Columbus.
While retired in Stetsonville, Neil enjoyed woodworking in his shop, wine-making, gardening, and sight-seeing all over the country with Linda in their RV.
Neil was a wealth of knowledge on nearly every topic he studied and a deep love for his family. He’s fondly remembered by many for dedication to his community and generosity to those around him.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Linda, his son and daughter in-law Jeremy and Natalie Micke, his daughter and son in-law, Rachel and Sandy Allen, his grandchildren Michael and Charlie Timmers, his extended grandchildren, Nayli Timmers and Kabri Jankovic, his step-grandchildren, Jaycie and Jordan Goheen, his sister, Sharon Hein, his sister in-law Jolanta Grzeszkowiak, his sisters in law: Connie and Melvin Oltmans, Pamela and Rod Clausen, Amy and Bruce Crouse, Anita and Clarke Evans, Margret and Walt Maimon, Kathy and Greg Lloyd.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Clarence and Anna, brother Kenneth, Sister Phillis Ann Klein, and his brothers in-law, David Garrels, Marvin Klein, and Norlin Hein.
Neil’s family will host a visitation at Sacred Heart in Stetsonville on Friday, August 11, 2023, from 9:30-11am with funeral mass at 11. There will be a luncheon at the Stetsonville Centennial Hall immediately after Mass, followed by his burial at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Gilman. Please come and share in Neil’s celebration of life.
