Kevin R. Nuernberger

Kevin R. Nuernberger, age 59, Abbotsford, WI passed away unexpected on December 19, 2021 at his home.

 

Kevin was born on October 19, 1962 to Rynold and Ann (Younker) Nuernberger in Medford, WI. He graduated from Medford High School and took classes at NTC. Kevin worked for Cops IGA for 20plus years until they closed and DJ for almost 40 years as KRN for car shows, weddings, and many other events.

 

Kevin wasn’t dealt the easiest life, but was determined to not slow him down. He loved to ride snowmobile and 4-wheeler. He enjoyed shooting pool, darts, and horseshoes. Kevin looked forward to taking is annual fishing trip to Canada with his brothers.

 

He is survived by his two brothers: Gary of Medford, and Jim of Medford; along with several nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

 

Kevin is preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law: Sharon Nuernberger.

 

Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

Jonathan G. Grunseth

Jonathan Gerald Grunseth, 48 of Gilman, WI, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021.

 

Jon was born on September 4, 1973 to Martha (Knapp) Williams and Benton Grunseth. Jon grew up in Gilman and Almena, Wisconsin. Jon graduated from Gilman High School in 1992 and went on to work for Local 268/Xcel Energy.

 

Jon married Ellen Grunseth in 2012 and blended their families together. He enjoyed his family and hunting immensely. Besides the love of his Life, Ellen, his greatest joys came with hunting with his children, his brothers, and other family members. While he loved softball and playing it, he loved watching his kids play ball more. Jon was an avid hunter and fisherman which he enjoyed doing with his kids as well. And, Jon loved to grill and make pancakes for his family, and a master at, he was. He gave the best hugs, he held you tight and a little bit longer and it made it extra special!

 

Jon is survived by his wife Ellen, his children Ivy Grunseth of Maplewood MN, Ethan Grunseth, Mikayla Waichulis, Casey Grunseth, and Dawson Grunseth of Gilman WI. He is also survived by his parents Marty and Randy Williams of Gilman and Bennie and Vonnie Grunseth of Almena WI, his siblings, Philip (Candice) Grunseth and girls of Gilman WI, Tyler (Nicole) Williams of Trout Creek MT, Riley Williams of River Falls WI, and Lee (Trent) Fouks & family of New Richmond, WI.

 

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ivy and Thomas Grunseth, and maternal grandparents, Gerald and Dorothy Knapp.

 

A funeral service will be held at 10:30AM on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church - Gilman, WI with Rev. Bill Pultz officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Polish National Cemetery-Lublin. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the Gilman Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Craig K. Scharrschmidt

Craig K. Scharrschmidt, 65, of Medford, died Friday, December 17, 2021 at Aspirus Hospital in Medford.

 

A celebration of Craig’s life, along with a motorcycle run will be held in the spring.  The date and time will be announced.

 

Craig was born August 27, 1956 in Fond du Lac, and adopted by William and Ursula (Russell) Scharrschmidt.  He graduated from Medford High School in 1974.

 

On July 4, 2013, he married Maggie Hauri in Oshkosh, at Craig’s sister’s home on the lake.

 

Craig worked for many years at Hurd Windows in Medford, then worked as a truck driver for Bauer Trucking until his retirement.

 

He was a longtime member of Medford Chapter of the Dry Riders Motorcycle Club and was currently on its Board of Directors.  He loved to ride his motorcycle, and he loved to hunt.  He spent a lot of time in the woods, which he found very peaceful.

 

He will de dearly missed by his wife, Maggie of Medford; son, Jedidiah (Shila) Scharrschmidt of Eau Claire; stepdaughters, Kaisha Scharrschmidt of Ripon and Breanna Hauri of Columbus, Ohio; siblings, Laura Scharrschmidt Wood of Medford, Jini (John) Diamond of Oshkosh, Jon (Lucille) Mills of Lake Havasu, AZ; sister-in-law, Christine Scharrschmidt of Janesville; step-granddaughter, Gracie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Scharrschmidt; and brother-in-law, Thomas Wood.

Violet D. Yeager

Violet D. Yeager, 85, of Rib Lake died on Friday, December 17th, at Aspirus Hospital, Medford, WI.

 

She was born on August 16, 1936, to Charles and Adela Spillner in Medford WI and attended Medford area schools.

 

She married Christian Theodore Neubauer and they later divorced. Their children included Theodore Neubauer, Harriet Pautz (Dan Ludwig), Robert & Kathy Neubauer, Theresa & Charles Zassenhaus, Paul & Cathy Neubauer, Alan Neubauer, Joan & Pete Faber. She was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Jay Neubauer, Dale & Andrea Neubauer, Jason Neubauer, Heather & Jesse Faude, Jake & Paige Faber and 6 great grandchildren.

She later remarried William Yeager in 1973, and he preceded her in death in 2005. She took on the role of stepmother to Robert & Debra Yeager, James & Faye Yeager, Donald & Debra Yeager, Wade Yeager, Gordon (Kate) Yeager, Valerie & Wade Haynes, Bill Yeager (Sharon Vanderwyst). Blessed with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren through her 2nd marriage.

Violet's Visitation will be on Thursday, December 23, 2021, starting at 10 AM at The Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, WI. Mass will immediately follow Visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Violet has one surviving Twin Sister, Viola Downing and deceased brothers Marvin Spillner, Ed Spillner, and William Spillner and her parents.

 

Violet was a very soft spoken gal, she loved to fish, she made delicious pies plus the favorite Blueberry Cheesecake at Christmas time. She made sure whomever showed up at meal time was fed, she loved to go bumming in her car. She knitted and crocheted blankets and went to Polka Dances and danced with her sister and family. She will be greatly missed by her family

Elroy Dahl

Elroy Dahl of Medford, went to his heavenly home December 24, 2021 at Marshfield Medical Center, 2 days short of his 81st Birthday surrounded by his loving family.

 

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 11 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will take place at the Evergreen II Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Ashley, Alex, Makenna, Garrett, Dakota & Maddie.

 

Elroy was born December 26, 1940 to the late Fred & Eleanor (Riemer) Dahl. In his early years he enjoyed working in the woods, and construction and spent most of his career as a machine operator for Michel's Pipeline which led him to many different states.

 

In his earlier years he loved ice fishing, especially the contests, even won a few. He also enjoyed hunting, going to auctions, his garden, and most recently sitting outside in the summer sunshine. But most of all he enjoyed all the visits from his family. As many of his nurses would say, he was a very sweet man. And was a favorite Uncle to many.

 

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Diane, his five children, Barb (Forrest) Tappe, David (Michele) Dahl, Jeff (Lisa) Dahl, Wayne (Molly) Dahl, Rodney (Wendy) Dahl, all of Medford. His special grandchildren Ashley (Chad) Allen, Viroqua, Alex Dahl, Minneapolis, Makenna (Cody) Miller, Garrett Dahl (special friend-Grace), Dakota Dahl (special friend Carlie) all of Medford and Maddie, Alex, Jake (Shelly) Tappe, all of Weston and Four Great Grandchildren, Ellanor Allen, Blayke, Tanner, and Laceigh Miller who all held a very special place in Great Grandpa's heart. Surviving siblings are Evangeline Becker, Jacky Faber, and Lyle Dahl.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Lester & Eudell

Rondi Lee Hemmer

Rondi Lee Hemmer, age 62, of Owen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at her residence with her family by her side.

 

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Pastor Faith Bosmans will officiate. Family and friends are welcome on Thursday from 9:00a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Loyal City Cemetery on Friday, December 31, 2021at 11:00 a.m.

 

Rondi was born on May 26, 1959, the daughter of Jack and Bonnie (Lekie) Oleson in Medford. She was a 1977 graduate of Medford High School. Rondi was united in marriage to Ronald Hemmer on May 4, 1979 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. Rondi worked at Wadal Plastics in Medford and Weathershield in Medford and Greenwood before helping Ron on the farm.

 

Rondi enjoyed crocheting, going to garage sales and spending time with the grandchildren.

 

Rondi is survived by her husband; Ron of Owen, mother; Bonnie Oleson of Stetsonville, children; Amber (Nathan) Curtin of Arpin and Travis (Heather) Hemmer of Loyal, grandchildren; Allison and William Curtin and Erik and Autumn Hemmer, five step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her siblings; John (Dee Dee) Oleson of Medford, Scott (Gail) Oleson of Curtiss, Shelly Raatz of Stetsonville and Vicky (Randy) Wicks of Medford.

 

She is preceded in death by her father; Jack Oleson, brother-in-law; Mark Raatz and nephew; Jason Hemmer.

Esther M. Steinman

Esther M. Steinman, age 93, of Rib Lake, WI, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at the Rib Lake Health Care Center under the care of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. 

 

Esther was born in Interwald, WI, on May 22, 1928, to the late Richard and Rosa (Klemm) Stibbe.  She was married to Leonard Steinman on June 26, 1948; he passed away in 2000. 

Esther moved to Grafton, WI, and worked for Tecumseh Products.  She later moved to Medford where she was employed at Tombstone Pizza for a short time before returning to the Interwald area.  Esther cleaned the Wilderness Queen on the Willow Flowage and maintained cabins in St. Germain, WI.  She enjoyed spending time at the trailer in Wautoma, WI, and loved musky fishing on the Willow Flowage. 

Survivors include her son, Donald (Sandra) Steinman; her daughter, Sandra (fiancé Doug Kass) Mann; Esther’s grandchildren, Jeremy (Karin) Steinman, Terry (Lori) Steinman, Timothy (Hollie) Steinman, Kimberly (Jason) Christianson, Carry Jerdee, Jeremy Gill, Stacy Lea, and Jon Jeske.  She is further survived by 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and an additional due in June; 3 step great-great grandchildren and twins due in April.   

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her sisters, Myrtle Rau, Violet Johnas, Fern Novak, and Edna Steinman; and her brothers, Alvin Stibbe and Gilbert Stibbe. 

Memorial services for Esther Steinman will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 7:00 PM, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Rib Lake.  Pastor Kenneth Bittorf will officiate.  The family will receive friends for visitation from 4:30 PM until 6:30 PM.  Generations Funeral Home & Crematory of Tomahawk is assisting the family.

Jerry Knapp

Jerry Knapp, 58 of rural Gilman, died December 24, 2021 at his home.

 

He was born on March 7, 1963 to the late Gerald and Dorothy (Nowak) Knapp. Jerry grew up in the Gilman area and graduated from Gilman High. He eventually moved to the Waukesha area and was a Union Laborer for Tri County Builders, moving back to Gilman in 2015. He enjoyed numerous outdoor activities; including hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and ATVing. Family was important to Jerry; always ending conversations with: “love ya.”

 

He is survived by his siblings, Randy Knapp of Chippewa Falls, David (Halina) Knapp of Beaver Dam, Marty (Randy) Williams of Gilman and Cecelia (Greg) Mohr of Rib Lake and many nieces and nephews. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, the Love of his life: Regine “Tutti” Lutherbach, his step daughter, Sadie Brazzoni and on December 27th his brother, Bob and nephew, Jon Grunseth.

 

A joint funeral service will be held at 7 PM on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the Gilman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM. Following cremation inurnment will take place in the Donald Cemetery.


Robert A. Knapp

Robert A. Knapp, 60 of Gilman, died Monday, December 27, 2021 at Aspirus Hospital-Medford with his family by his side.

 

He was born on June 1, 1961 in Medford to the late Gerald and Dorothy (Nowak) Knapp. Bob grew up in the Gilman area and graduated from Gilman High. He went on to work as a Union Electrician for many years. Then, in 1996 Bob purchased the Tom and Jerry’s Tavern and Ballroom from his parents which he operated since.

 

He is survived by his son, Tanan (Jolene) Knapp of Lake Wissota, his grandson, Hudson Robert Knapp, his significant other, Suzie Oberle of Gilman, his siblings, Randy Knapp of Chippewa Falls, David (Halina) Knapp of Beaver Dam, Marty (Randy) Williams of Gilman and Cecelia (Greg) Mohr of Rib Lake and many nieces and nephews.

 

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Jerry on December 24th . A joint funeral service will be held at 7 PM on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the Gilman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM.

Elin Sanders

Elin Bernice (Emstrom) Sanders, 92, died, 30 Dec 2021 at Abbotsford Care Center in Abbotsford, Wisconsin, where she had been a resident since June 2012.

 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 3, 2022 at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford with Rev. David Clements officiating.  Burial will follow at Perkinstown Community Cemetery in Perkinstown.

Friends may call from 9 A.M. until time of service at 1 P.M., Monday, January 3 at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford. 

 

Elin was born June 10, 1929, at home in Perkinstown, to Edwin and Pearl (Andrews) Emstrom. 

 

She graduated from Lincoln Grade School in Perkinstown, May 1943, Hannibal High School, May 15, 1946, County Normal School, June 1 1951, Medford, Wisconsin State Teachers College, Eau Claire with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Aug 2, 1963.  During her years of teaching, she taught grades one through eight at Lakeview School in Withee and Roosevelt in Perkinstown and grades 4-5-6 at Gilman Grade School, Lublin Grade School and Withee Grade School. After teaching in the Gilman School District for 39 years, she retired in 1989.

 

She married Robert L. Sanders at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church,  August 14, 1965, Medford, Wisconsin.  He passed April 26, 2004.

 

She enjoyed helping her son Robbie with his 4-H projects, going to watch him play basketball and really enjoyed all of his wrestling tournaments. Robby passed August 15,1982.

 

After she retired, she enjoyed socializing with friends and family, especially going to family reunions in Merrillan, WI. She loved watching the Packers and the Brewers, playing cards, crocheting, baking, reading westerns, watching the Gilman Wrestling matches as well as the Gilman Basketball games, both boys & girls and enjoyed mowing her lawn in the sunshine.

 

She is survived by her sister Ella Fischer of Sheboygan; her niece, Nancy (Bill) Sarring and families of Port Washington; nephews, Fred (Kelly) Emstrom and families of Perkinstown,  Ted (Dawn) Fischer and families of Port Washington, Ned (Janet) Fischer and families of Chippewa Falls, God daughter, Robin (Joshua) Pocock and family of Plover;  and many other nieces and nephews from her marriage to Bob Sanders.

 

Others preceding her in death were her parents, Edwin and Pearl (Andrews) Emstrom; brothers, Fred Emstrom and Edwin Emstrom Jr.; brothers-in-law, Ted Fischer, Lester Zielinski and Vincent Tomczak; sisters-in-law, Clara (Leuthy-Armstrong) Emstrom, Lorraine (Zielinski) Tomczak and Viola (Smith) Zielinski; father-in-law and mother in-law, Robert (Zielinski) and Helen (Wiekinkski) Zielinski.

 

A special thank you to Carissa and Pastor Randy from St. Croix Hospice and all the nurses, caretakers and doctors at Abbotsford Care Center who have lovingly cared for her.

Diane L. Freimund

Diane L. Freimund, age 38, of Milan, passed away December 30, 2021 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

 

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2021 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. The Rev. Frank Geibel will officiate. Interment to follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Satruday. Diane was born on August 7, 1983 in Marshfield, the daughter of Danny and Dorean (Petznick) Freimund. She was a 2002 graduate from Abbotsford High School. Diane worked at Marathon Cheese as a line worker. Most importantly, Diane cherished her family and especially her niece and nephew, Lydia and Kolton.

 

Diane loved playing games and collecting mustangs, her favorite was the white mustang.

 

Diane is survived by her mom; Dorean; two sisters: Dawn (Travis) Faber of Merrill, and Dee Freimund of Milan; a niece, Lydia Faber and a nephew, Kolton Faber and further survived by other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her dad; Danny (March 2020) and grandparents.

Charles V. Hamilton

Charles V. Hamilton, age 75 of Colby, passed away Friday, December 31, 2021 at the House of the Dove under Compassus Hospice.

A Funeral Service will be held at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford at 12:00 pm on Thursday January 6, 2022, with Father Joseph Redfern officiating. Friends and Family are welcome 11:00 am until time of service at the funeral home on Thursday. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Military Honors provided by the Colby VFW Post #2227. Chuck was born on January 16, 1946, the son of Orvel and Mildred Hamilton in Ladysmith. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1964-68. On May 7, 2002, he was united in marriage to Gloria R. Drier at the Chapel of Love in Vegas. Chuck worked for Weathershield in Medford until retirement.

Being a Navy Vietnam Veteran, Chuck loved to march with the VFW in Parades. He loved sailing in the Navy especially the Philippines, and enjoyed talking about places he visited all over the United States. He drove semi and loved to watch MASH.

Chuck is survived by his wife: Gloria; four children: Carmen Drier of Raeford, NC, Nicole (Trent) Dernbach of Rochester, MN, Craig (Ashley) Hamilton of Medford, and Heidi (Jonathan) Block of Colby; eight grandchildren: Allison, Marcus, Trey, Abby, Hailey, Corbin, Jamison, and Jemma; a sister: May Mueller of Albert Lea, MN; along with other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his four siblings: Marcella Joel, Charles, Edward Hamilton, and Leona Toon.

Marguerite A Klingbeil

Marguerite A. Klingbeil (nee Hirsch) joined her forever loved ones in Heaven on Saturday, January 1, 2022.

 

The funeral mass will take place on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford at 11 a.m. with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating.  The grandchildren will be urn bearers. Burial of her cremated remains will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will take place Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the church.                                        

 

Marguerite was born on February 11, 1933 to Leo J. and Theresa M. (Brost) Hirsch at the family farm.

 

On June 28, 1952, Marguerite married the love of her life, Ramon “Ray” Klingbeil at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford.

 

Mother of John “Jack” (Kathleen) Klingbeil, Thomas (Marsha) Klingbeil, Karin Kay Casey, and Paul (Dawn) Klingbeil. Loving Grandmother to Sarah (Josh) Adams, Jason (Sue) Klingbeil, Jesse (Courtney) Klingbeil, Joshua Klingbeil (Brooke Sperry), Jonathan Klingbeil, Garett (Becca) Klingbeil, Grant (Danielle) Klingbeil, Nathanial Casey, Christopher (Deanna) Casey. And Loving Great Grandmother to Max, Ali and Ray Adams, Conner, Cooper, Carter and Coby Klingbeil, Taylor and Hudson Klingbeil, Belanna Werner and Geordi Sperry, Jack and Ada Klingbeil, Emmitt and August Klingbeil, Oliver Strobl and William and James Casey.  

 

She attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1950 and Taylor Co. Teachers College.  She instructed for Northcentral Technical College at the Medford Campus.  An active member of Holy Rosary, she served as lector, minister of the Eucharist, taught CCD classes and directed a popular “teen” guitar group for the Holy Rosary Church “guitar mass” and member of Holy Rosary Council of Catholic Women.

 

She was kind, selfless and authentic to those who knew her well.  Marguerite was a devout Catholic who loved her family and dear friends.  Her interests and activities included bird watching, flower gardens, music, card playing, family gatherings, skiing, golfing, walking, family camping and traveling. Her sport favorites included Local, Collegiate, G.B. Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, U.W. Badgers and Bucks.  

 

Marguerite was active and achieving in her community.  She was an integral part of Black River Industries and Taylor County Disability and Aging serving on their boards. She also served as President for St. Joseph’s Children’s Home Inc. at Superior WI, an operation of Catholic Charities Bureau Inc. for the Diocese of Superior.

 

She was very much in unison with the name given to her, “Marguerite” a beautiful flower “loved by many” and will be very dearly missed.

 

Marguerite is survived by her beloved husband Ramon; her children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Patrick J. Hirsch; in-laws, Joan Hirsch, Bernice Hirsch and Joyce Baker; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.  

 

She is preceded in death by her parents Leo J. and Theresa M. Michael T. “Mike” Fosterling, 60, of Medford, died peacefully on Saturday, January 1, 2022.

 

A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, January 7 at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home, Medford with the Rev. Paul Woods officiating.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 5 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Following the service, please join Mike's family for a meal and a toast to Mike at BS Bar, W4782 State Hwy 64, Medford.

 

Mike was born July 29, 1961 in Antigo to Donald and Lucy (Duvall) Fosterling.  He graduated from Abbotsford High School, class of 1979.  He served in the U.S. Army National Guard while earning his degree in Mechanics from Northcentral Tech College.  He worked as a mechanic and sanitation engineer for many years.  He then worked at the Colby Cheese Factory and was most currently working maintenance at Bach Farms, retiring due to ill health.

 

In 19889, he married Laura Winslow.  They later divorced but he remained very close with Laura and her children.

 

Mike loved being outdoors.  He was happiest when he was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, fishing or hunting.  He and his hunting buddies owned “Short Prong Lodge” which was the name of their hunting shack. 

 

Survivors include his sister, Tenna (Darrel) Firnstahl; sister-in-law, Evie Fosterling; former wife, Laura Winslow; stepchildren, William “Billy” Berger, Jennifer (Jay) Jochimsen and Ethan McDermond; step-grandchildren, Destiny and Hunter Jochimsen; nieces and nephews, Sara Hince (Kyle Thompson), Tonja Firnstahl (Dustin Soderman), Kyle Firnstahl, Tyler (Amanda) Firnstahl, Brittney (Patrick) Radlinger, Keisha (Billy) Adams, Megan (Dayne) Shemick, Chelsey Fosterling (friend, Brandon Baures) and Robin Fosterling (friend, Matt Zimmerman).

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Robert, Kenneth, and Dennis Fosterling.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be designated at a later date.

James "Jim" A. Bjornstad

James “Jim” A. Bjornstad, age 83, of Owen, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the United Church of Christ in Owen. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. The family requests those attending to wear Packers attire in Jim’s memory.

Jim was born on November 23, 1938, the son of Arnold and Elsie (Karye) Bjornstad in Owen. He graduated from Owen High School in 1956. On February 7, 1959, Jim was united in marriage to Dorothy Anderson at the United Church of Christ in Owen. He was a truck driver for 40 years, including with Allied Van Lines, Foremost and Master Package.

Jim enjoyed driving anything that had a steering wheel and a clutch, including his boat, Ford truck, Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, Ski-Doo and Arctic Cat snowmobiles, John Deere lawnmower, golf cart and enjoyed sharing his love of driving with his daughters as they grew up. He enjoyed playing golf, cooking, especially his chili, watching sports, especially the Packers and Badgers and spending weekends with friends and family at the cottage in Lake Holcomb. Jim’s most treasured moments were traveling all over the country with his family and when he got to shake the hand of Charlie Pride in Branson, MO. Most importantly, he loved and cherished his family.

Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Bjornstad; two daughters: Tamara (Ken) Seubert of Altoona and Lori (Ron) Neumann of Hudson; six grandchildren: Kevin (Sarah Jane) Milliren of Fremont, Eric (Jessica) Milliren of Cyprus, TX, Dan (Leanne) Milliren of Greenville, Mike (Christina) Mroz of Somerset, Mandy (Thomas) Nevins of Albuquerque, NM and Christian (Courtney) Neumann of Weston; nine great-grandchildren: Hannah, Kaleb, Elsa, Ellianna, Ava, Miles, Evie, James and Walker; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill.


Gerald E. "Jerry" Wendt

Gerald E. “Jerry” Wendt, 75, of Rib Lake, died Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Aspirus Hospital in Medford. 

 

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Medford with Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating.  Military honors will immediately follow the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date.  

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. Saturday at the church. 

Following the service at the church, all are welcome to join the family in “Celebrating a Life Well Lived” at Zondlo’s Bar in Rib Lake, where a meal will be served, stories and memories will be shared, and a few toasts to Jerry will be given. 

 

He was born August 28, 1946 in Milwaukee to Alfred and Alice (Schimmelpfennig) Wendt.  He grew up and attended elementary school in Freistadt.  He graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School. 

 

Jerry served in the U.S. Army from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1968. 

 

On June 12, 1970, Jerry married Patricia Franke in (Freistadt) Mequon, WI where they resided for 27 years.  Jerry worked at AO Smith in Milwaukee until his retirement in 1997. 

 

In 2013, Jerry and Patty built a home and moved to Rib Lake on Little Spirit Lake…a place they knew well as Jerry had grown up visiting their family cottage since he was a child.  Jerry knew all the good fishing spots and could tell you the exact place where he caught every musky.   

 

Jerry was a past member of the Saukville Gun Club where he spent many years trap shooting.  He was also a proud member of the Z-Krew Hunting Shack, where he shared his love of hunting with all his good friends and family.   He also loved to fish.  His favorites where Lake Michigan and Lake Winnebago.  After moving to Rib Lake he spent many hours fishing Spirit Lake.  

 

In his final days at the hospital, Jerry acknowledged that he had a good life.  Indeed he did, and left many stories, memories to cherish and a wonderful legacy for his children and grandchildren. 

 

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Patricia of Rib Lake; daughter, Lisa (Mark) Gall of Saukville; son, Jair Wendt of West Bend; a brother, Richard (Cindy) Wendt of Rib Lake; sister-in-law, Nancy Wendt of Rib Lake; brothers-in-laws, Martin Franke of Hartland, WI and Steven Franke of Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Kaylie and Makenna Gall, Megan and Justin Wendt;  and by many family members and friends. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Thomas Wendt.

Richard J. "Dick" Higgins

Richard J. “Dick” Higgins, 86, of Medford, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.

 

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, January 7, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating, with military honors provided by the Medford Area Military Honor Guard following. Burial will be at Molitor Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

 

Richard was born November 10, 1935 in the town of Molitor to Sherman and Beulah (Donaldson) Higgins. He attended Pine Tree Grade School and attended Medford High School.

 

He served in the U.S. Air Force from Nov. 1952, airman 2nd class then served as crew chief and aircraft mechanic until his honorable discharge in 1955.  He then served in active reserve until Nov. 1960.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

 

After service, he worked a short time at Harvey Co., then worked as a diesel mechanic for Neuendorf Transportation for 25 years, worked three years at ANR, and then worked for Peterson & Sons for 11 years until his retirement in 1993 also raised beef, pigs and ginseng.

 

On May 2, 1959, he married Irene Steen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Medford.  They had one son, Duane “Red” and one daughter, Lisa Jean, and adopted and raised three grandchildren, Hethar, Lucas and Cheyenne, also had grandchildren Crystal, Jason, Jacob, Matt and Benjamin.

 

Richard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Medford American Legion Post #147, and the Medford Area Military Honor Guard.

 

He enjoyed repairing and restoring old IH tractors, snowmobiling, gardening, cycle riding, polka dancing, yard work, and going to Red Higgins & Freedom Train concerts. He also loved helping his children, grandchildren and friends, and spending time with his family.

 

He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Irene; son, Duane “Red” (Lisa Marie) Higgins; siblings, Roger (Faith) Higgins and Florence Hein; brother-in-law, Ervin (Alice) Steen; grandchildren, Crystal (Mike) Schaaf, Jason (Maya) Higgins, Hethar Higgins, Cheyenne (Gary Mayer) Higgins, Lucas (Harley) Higgins, Jacob, Matthew and Benjamin Porter, and Brian Schaaf; great-grandchildren, Riley, Jayce, Charlie, Mariah, Everly, Natalie, Shane, Annalisa, Abree, Lucy, Nani and Kioni; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; Sherman and Beulah Higgins his in-laws, Frank and Frieda Steen; a daughter, Lisa Jean Higgins; brother and sister-in-law, Glen (Lorrie) Higgins, sisters and brothers-in-law, Genevieve (Eugene) Gengler, Marie (Conrad) Nelson, Lorraine (Matt) Gengler, Caroline (Wilfred) Butler; and brother-in-law, Calvin Hein.

Debra “Debbie” K. Voelker, age 64, of Abbotsford, passed away unexpectedly surrounded by her loving husband and family on Friday, January 7, 2022 at the Marshfield Medical Center.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Michael Hayden will officiate. Interment to follow at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church. Family and friends are welcome to attend the services, seating maybe limited. Live stream will be available for those unable to attend on the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home Facebook page or after the service anytime on Facebook or the website. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

 

Debbie was born on May 25, 1957, the daughter of Norman and Agnes (Stoiber) Danen in Marshfield. She graduated from Colby High School. On September 5, 1981, Debbie was united in marriage to Steven Voelker at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. She was employed at Abbyland for the past 20 years.

 

Debbie enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and bowling with her husband in a mixed couples league. She especially enjoyed working in her flower beds at home and at the family cabin. Besides her flower beds, she enjoyed collecting metal art for her gardens. Debbie loved the weekend getaways and time with her sisters. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

 

Debbie is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Steven; four daughters: Jennifer Danen of Park Falls, Jessica (Jose) Lara of Colby, Julie Linzmaier of Marshfield and Janelle Voelker (fiancé, Guadalupe Espino) of Abbotsford; six grandchildren: MaKayla, Carlos, Martin, Alex, Bailey and Morgan. She is further survived by her mother, Agnes “Aggie” Danen of Dorchester; five siblings: Diane (Tim) Ludwig of Stetsonville, Donna (Scott) Stange of Unity, Dale (Michielle) Danen of Dorchester, Denise (Brian) Dahl of Stetsonville and David (Terri) Danen of Stratford; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

She is preceded in death by her father, Norman and an infant brother, Daniel Gerard.

Richard Lee Granstrom

Richard Lee Granstrom, SR died Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at UW Hospital in Madison.

 

He was born on June 27, 1939 in Milwaukee the son of the late Elmer and Pearl (Freeman) Granstrom. Richard grew up south of Gilman and graduated from Thorp High. He then entered the military and served in the Army for the next 28 years. Richard fought during the Vietnam Conflict and after his time in the active military he taught classes for the government until his retirement.

 

Richard married Judy Anderson and they had three children together. Judy passed away and later Richard married Lydia Anderson on June 9, 2001. The couple retired in Gilman and he had been there since. He enjoyed restoring classic cars and trucks, going to car shows and parades. He loved his trains and planes and also he liked to camp and take his motorcycle out for a ride.

 

He is survived by his son, Wayne (Sherry) Granstrom of Apex, NC, his step daughters, Lisa (Scott) Jensen of Jump River and Sherri Meyer of Milwaukee, his grandchildren, Jeffery, Shawn, Desiree, Santara, Jake and Kelsey and one sister, Barbara (Richard) Holtz of Batesville, Arkansas.

 

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Judy and Lydia, his sons, Michael and Richie (Sept. 5, 2021) and his sisters, Arlene Granstrom and MaryAnn Skripjok.

 

A joint funeral service for Richie JR and Richard SR will be held at Noon on Monday, January 17, 2022 at the Gilman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Cemetery-Gilman with Military Honors by the VFW. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Paul "Baldy" L. Metz

Paul “Baldy” L. Metz, 77, of Medford, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Aspirus Medford Hospital.

 

Paul was born in Medford on April 14, 1944 to Charles and Beulah (White) Metz. He attended Little Black Grade School and graduated from Medford High School in 1962. He served in the Army as military police from May 20, 1965 until May 24, 1971 and was awarded the Good Conduct and National Service Medals. He married Marjorie Nuernberger on July 20, 1968 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and she preceded him in death on December 16, 2014. After his service, Paul worked for D.L. Gasser Construction.  He then worked for American Asphalt for many years, until his retirement.

 

Paul’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, bird watching, mowing lawn, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, bowling, and attending Green Bay Packers games. He was a private and humble man who was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends.

 

Paul is survived by his children, Timothy (Dianne) Metz of Sun Prairie, Brenda Metz of Mosinee, and Julie Metz of Marshfield; grandchildren, Ethan & Peyton Metz and Parker & Megan Navarre; special friend, Sharon Ellenbecker of Dorchester; siblings, Mona “Monie” (Kayo) Pope of Stetsonville, Jim (Bev) Metz of Medford, Dan “Boone” (Jeneane) Metz of Stetsonville, and Steve (Kate) Metz of Medford; sisters-in-law Linda Metz, Deb Metz, and Dee Habeck, all of Medford. Paul is further survived by his in-laws, Neal (Jean) Nuernberger of Texas, Paul (Linda) Nuernberger, Mary (Tom) Brost, and Sara Nuernberger all of Medford, Roger Paul of Hubertus, and Doris Nuernberger of Sheboygan Falls.  Along with many nieces and nephews. 

 

In addition to his parents and wife, Paul is preceded in death by his parents-in-law Elmer and Goldie Nuernberger; brothers, Chuck, Mark, and Philip “Fuzz” Metz; in-laws Ellyn Paul, David Nuernberger, and Nancy Wycliffe; and nephew Brian Metz.

 

A memorial mass for Paul will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Father Jayanna Kanna officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Little Black. Visitation will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Friday, January 14, 2022 from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
