Allen J. Kowalczyk

Allen J. Kowalczyk, age 92, of Gilman, passed away on Tuesday, May
13, 2014 at his home with his family by his side and under the care of
Hope Hospice and Palliative Care.

  Allen was born April 24, 1922 in the Town of Roosevelt, Taylor County, 

the son of the late Albert & Agnes (Krezel) Kowalczyk. He grew up in the

Town of Roosevelt, farmed on the family farm and also did bulldozing work.

He also belonged to the Carpenters Union in Illinois for 35 years.

  On April 30, 1988 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Wojcik at St.’s

Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Gilman. He was a member of the Knights of

Columbus, the Town of Roosevelt Rod & Gun Club, and was an avid deer

hunter in his earlier years.

    Allen is survived by his wife Evelyn of Gilman, step-children, Ted
(Cindy) Wojcik, Tom Wojcik, and Tim (Janet) Wojcik, all of Gilman;
Laurie (Bob) Volberg of Cornell; Leslie (Bradley) Cornell of Jump
River; Lisa (Morris Larsen) Leech of Gilman; and Todd (Christine)
Wojcik of Medford, 19 step-grandchildren and 17 step-great-
grandchildren, two brothers, Edward Kowalczyk of Gilman; Casey
(Dolores) Kowalczyk of IL; one sister, Adeline “Pat” Liszewski of
Gilman. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Walter,
Leonard, and Robert, two sisters, Mary Leshuk, and Victoria Koperski.
    Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.
m. at St.’s Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Gilman, with Fr. Madanu
Sleeva officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Lublin.
Visitation will be Friday morning at the church from 9-10:30 a.m. prior
to services.

Leona I. Mallo, age 91, of Gilman, passed away on Monday, May
12, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

  Leona was born August 7, 1922 in Polley, rural Gilman, the daughter

of the late Henry & Jennie (Christiansen) Smith. She grew up in Polley

and attended school there. On November 14, 1940 she was united in
marriage to Hughie Mallo in Hannibal with the couple residing their
entire lives in Hannibal, raising their family of 10 children. Leona
was a homemaker and also did babysitting on the side. She loved
attending baseball and softball games and was also an active
member in the Hannibal Presbyterian Church.
    Leona is survived by her 10 children , Lola Chitwood of
Cloverdale, OR; Betty (Luverne) Kroeplin of Thorp; Merideth
Westaby of Stanley; Sally (John) Schutten of Hannibal; Pamela
(Ronald) Kruppe of GlenFlora; Earl (Pam) Mallo of Ladysmith;
Byron (Robin) Mallo of Medford; Brenda Skabroud of Jump River;
Cheryl (Fred) Romig of Gilman, and Charlotte (Russ) Goebel of
Medford, 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-
great- grandchildren, two sisters, Mayme Casolari and Nina
Denning, and one brother, Gordon Smith, all of Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Hughie in
1994, granddaughter, Jennifer Westaby, grandson, Kenny Jo
Chitwood, sons-in-law, Robert Chitwood, Gerald Westaby, and
Thomas Skabroud, six brothers, and three sisters.
   Services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. at New
Hope Presbyterian Church, Hannibal, with Pastor Barry Boyer
officiating. Burial will follow in the Hannibal Cemetery. Visitation will
be held on Friday evening from 4-7 p.m at the Gilman Funeral
Home and one hour prior to service time on Saturday morning at
the church.

Gordon R. Nelson, 94 of Medford, Wisconsin died Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home.

  He was born on November 15, 1919 in Little Black Township, Taylor County the son of Otto and Mathilde (nee Nelson) Nelson. On May 21, 1955 he married Delores Tylke at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford. Gordon was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army in the European Theatre. He owned and operated his own dairy farm for 51 years retiring in 1989. Gordon also worked for the Medford Co-Op Feed Mill for several years. After his retirement he worked for the National Forest Service for a number of years. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a charter member of Klossner-Dietzler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.5729 in Medford. Gordon was an avid reader, enjoyed a good joke and loved the outdoors.

 

SURVIVORS: Gordon is survived by his wife Delores Nelson, a resident of the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, five children, Gordon R. (Jo Ann) Nelson, Buckeye, AZ, Bonnie Nelson, Romeoville, IL, Michael (Valerie) Nelson, Aurora, CO, Diane (Tom) Nielsen, Whitewater,WI, Paul (Pam) Nelson, Fond du Lac, WI and four grandchildren Thomas, William, Amy and Ryan Nelson. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Glenn, Larry, Clarence, Orville and Stanley and four sisters, Ella, Louise, Gladys and Helen.

 

VISITATION: The family will receive friends on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford.

 

FUNERAL: A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 23, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic church, Medford. Reverend Gerard Willger will officiate. Cremation has taken place; inurnment and graveside military rites performed by the Medford Military Honors Team, will follow the services at Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery, Holway Township. She was a janitor for 26 years at Greenwood Grade School. She was also a cook there for the last 2 years and Sid’s Restaurant in Interwald until her retirement. Theresa enjoyed gardening, cooking, singing, dancing, playing cards and socializing.

Mildred “Millie” V. Ericksmoen of Owen, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen at the age of 93 years-2 months-3 days. Memorial services will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in the Town of Longwood on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Brian Campbell presiding. Visitation will be held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of services. Burial will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Longwood.

 

Mildred was born on March 8, 1921 to Carl and Lenora (Bosse) Tessmer. She attended school in the Holway area. Millie married John Ericksmoen on August 25, 1936.

 

Millie worked 30 years as head cook at the Owen-Withee Schools and also as head cook at the Meadow View Country Club for many years. She resided at the Clark County Health Care Center since December 26, 2008.

 

Mildred loved to cook and was known for her apple slices.

 

Mildred and John had four children; Betty Jane, Janice, Allan and Jim all are deceased.

 

Millie is survived by her two daughters in law; Barbara (Dennis Burke) Ericksmoen and Frances (Don) Petersen, four grandchildren; Bill Ericksmoen of Vietnam, Brenda (Sean) Kinsey of Colorado, Cindy Minch of Colorado and Vickie Howard of Montana, four great-grandchildren; Taylor Minch, Luke Kinsey, Matthew Howard and Nathan Howard, three sisters; Ruth Foster of Missouri, Dorothy Darge of Racine and Florence Bingham of Medford.

 

She was preceded in death by her children, parents, her husband John in 1972, two brothers; Edwin and Leroy and two sisters in law; Maxine and Irene.

Leona also worked at Hurd Millwork for a period of time. She enjoyed needlework, crafts, painting, making mink accessories, fishing and gambling.

 

MEMBER OF: Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Ladies Aid, Chelsea Conservation Club Auxiliary, where she served as President for a number of years, the Medford American Legion Auxiliary and the Whittlesey Homemaker’s Club. She was also a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Choir.

Gerturde L. Kotecki

Gertrude L. Kotecki, age 82, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Clark County Health Care Center. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in the Town of Hixon.

 

Gertrude was born on November 30, 1931 to Joseph and Lucille (Ceglaraek) Trybula. She was united in marriage to Clarence Kotecki on November 17, 1952.

 

Gertrude worked for Allen Bradley in Milwaukee, lived in Texas with her husband while he served in the U.S. Army, then farmed with her husband on their family farm until 2003. Since, she has resided at Continental Manor in Abbotsford and the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.

 

Gertrude loved polka dancing, fishing, caring for her many farm pets and will always be remembered for the many beautiful cakes she designed and decorated for her family and friends for all occasions.

 

Gertrude is survived by brother-in-laws, Raymond (Gloria) Wundrow, Frank (Stephanie) Kotecki, sisters-in-law,Josephine Sarafin and nine nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband on December 28, 2004, her parents, her sister, Grace Wundrow on November 14, 2004 and sister-in-law,Josephine Kotecki.

He was a firefighter for the Medford Fire Dept., a Taylor County E.M.T. & was a Deputy Coroner/Medical Examiner for periods of time. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and grandchildren, fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards, making fire wood & the outdoors.

Roy "Grandpa" Klinger

  Roy "Grandpa" Klinger, 85, of the Town of Goodrich, passed away on Thursday, May 15 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.

  Roy was born in Taylor County on September 6th, 1928 to Otto and Alma (Title) Klinger Sr.  He attended Medford Schools.  After school he went west to work until he returned to Taylor County to farm.  After farming, Roy worked as a logger until he retired at the age of 79.

  Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing and time at the cabins at the lake.  He spent quality time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all who cherished him.

  He married Annette Jari and was later divorced.

  Roy is survived by his four children, Judy (John) Lemke of Hamburg, Steve (special friend Lyn) Klinger, Jeff (Kathy) Klinger and Linda (Leon) Hraby all of Medford.  Grandchildren, Stacy Roessler, John Lemke Jr, Jenny Lemke, Kim Woller, Alfred Lemke III, Ashley Lemke, Larry Klinger, Stephen Klinger, Samantha Klinger-Landzettel, Jeff Klinger Jr, Lee Hraby, Lyle Hraby and Liza Hraby.  He also has 19 great-grandchilderen and one great-great granddaughter.

  He is also survived by a brother, Otto Jr of Medford and a sister, Ruth, of Milwaukee.

  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Estelle Faber.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31st at 9:00 A.M. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Goodrich.  Visitation and fellowship will follow in the Goodrich Town Hall at W1196 Mira Avenue.

Arthur A. Jarvis, age 87, of Withee, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee. Rev. Nancy Amacher will officiate. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the church in Withee. Burial will follow the service in the Riverside Cemetery, Withee. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is entrusted with the arrangements.

 

Arthur was born September 15, 1926, the son of Joseph and Jennie (Eckola) Jarvis in Crystal Falls, MI. He was a 1944 graduate of Crystal Falls High School. After graduation Art enlisted in the US Air Force. Following his military service, Art attended Michigan State University and earned a BS degree in Agriculture. Arthur was united in marriage to Waverly Ann Mitchell on June 17, 1950 at the First Lutheran Church in Iron River, MI. He taught at Felch High School in Michigan from 1950 to 1954. He returned to Michigan State and earned a degree in Veterinary Medicine. They later moved to Cornell, WI for 3 years and moved to the Owen-Withee area and resided there ever since.

 

Art was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church and the Owen-Withee Lions Club, Owen Masonic Lodge, Owen American Legion and he also served on the Owen-Withee School Board and on the State Bank of Withee Board. He earned 3 awards while being a member of the Lions Club; Birch-Sturm Fellow, Melvin Jones Fellow and Lion of the year 1965-1966.

 

Art enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, playing cards and traveling with his wife, Waverly.

 

Arthur is survived by his son, Gary (Glorinda Marie) Jarvis of San Francisco Bay area, CA, his granddaughter; Angelina (Randy) Severson of the San Francisco Bay area and a great-grandson; Orion Severson, and other relatives and friends. He is further survived by a sister; Marge (Will) Kottke of Phoenix, AZ, brothers; Ray Jarvis of Marquette, MI, Edward (Joan) Jarvis of Crystal Falls, MI and Ted Jarvis of Nashville, TN.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Waverly on April 27, 2013; his daughter; Gayle Jarvis, brother; Fran Jarvis and sisters; Joyce Heynan and Arlene Price.

Leonard M. Gay, age 84, of Stanley, passed away unexpectedly on
Friday, May 23, 2014 at his home.

 

  He was born on September 15, 1929 in Milwaukee, the son of the

late Edward & Ann (Rembleski) Gay. The family moved just west of

Gilman when he was a young boy. He grew up in Gilman attending

area schools. Leonard joined the Army to fight in the Korean Conflict

where he was severely injured. After that he worked in Ely, MN as a

lumberjack, worked construction for a time in Milwaukee, and was a

bridge builder in Wisconsin before moving back to help run the family

farm. Leonard sold the farm and moved to Stanley in 1991.

 

  He loved going to auctions and buying “treasures.” Leonard also was an
avid outdoorsman but most of all loved deer hunting.

 

  He is survived by his brothers, Raymond of Cornell, Richard (Ann) of
Sun City West, Ari., Robert (Pamela) of Chippewa Falls, and William of
Coon Rapids, MN, one sister, Kathleen (Donald) Winn of Brooklyn
Center, MN, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was
preceded in death by his parents and brother Walter.

 

  Funeral services will be at 11:30AM on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at
the Plombon Funeral Home-Stanley. Father Madanu Sleeva Raja
officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery with military rites by
the Gilman American Legion. Visitation will be Wednesday morning from
10AM until time of service. Memorials are appreciated to the VFW in
Leonard’s name.

Thomas “Tom” J. Konopacki

Age, 62 of Medford, died unexpectedly on Sunday May 25, 2014, at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital. Tom was born on November 13, 1951 in Stevens Point to Lucille (Koback) Konopacki and the late Alois Konopacki.

He attended local schools graduating from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1971. He was married to Patsy Hebblewhite the couple later divorced.

Tom worked at Weather Shield in Medford for the past 13 years, he previously worked at Kimberly Clark.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Plover/Whiting Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, all sports and spending time with his loving grandchildren. Tom was deeply loved, and will be missed greatly by all.

Survivors include his mother, Lucille Konopacki of Plover. Sons, Keith (special friend Betsie) Konopacki of Medford and Kory Konopacki of Plover. Grandchildren; Justine, Hailey, Kaydance and Jordan.

Brothers, Dennis (Barbara) Konopacki of Bancroft, Bruce (Sue) Konopacki of Plover and Dave (Mary) Konopacki of Plover. Sister, Marlene (Michael) Raykowski of Plover. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Marvin.

Funeral Services will take place on Thursday May29, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. at the Pisarski Community Funeral Home and Cremation Center 2911 Plover Road Plover with Deacon Vernon Linzmeier officiating. Visitation on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials in Tom’s name will be established at a later date.
