Sophie Ann Lelko, 96, formerly of Gilman, died Tuesday,

September 23, 2014 at Miller Alternative Care Center in Thorp
under the care of Hope Hospice of Medford.

 

She was born on April 16, 1918 to the late Martin and Josephine

Gonia. She grew up in the Gilman area and graduated from Gilman

High. Sophie was married to Ferdinand “Fritz” Lelko on September

30, 1939 in Chicago, IL. She owned and operated Kedvale Grocery

Store in Chicago for 12 years. The couple retired and moved to
Gilman.

 

Sophie was an active member at Saints Peter and Paul, singing
in the choir and helping with the ladies aid activities.

 

Sophie is survived by two sons, Leonard and Bernard Lelko both
of Gilman, a daughter in law, Marie Lelko of Hamburg, MI,
grandchildren, Daniel, Brenda and Laura Lelko and Sheila
Frome, great grandchildren, Ashley and Owen Frome and Avery
Lelko and two sisters, Theresa Trawicki of Cornell and Cecilia
Sromek of Thorp. She is preceded in death by her parents, her
husband, Fritz, her son, Jerome, one sister Anna Zitella and two
brothers, Anthony and Stanley Gonia.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September
27, 2014 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Gilman with
Father Madanu Sleeva officiating. Burial will follow in the parish
cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 on Friday at the Gilman
Funeral Home and from 9:30 until time of service Saturday at the
church.

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: Lawrence was in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1943. He was a cheese maker for 30 years at Marathon Cheese in Abbotsford. Lawrence then worked for Packaging Corporation of America for 20 years until his retirement. In his retirement, he helped his wife run Duffy’s Bar in Colby for 15 months. Lawrence then became a manager for the Welcome Inn Motel in Medford for a period of time. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage and doing his chin-ups. He loved baseball and boxing. As a young man, Lawrence was known as the Strong Man of Abbotsford.

Jim then joined Weather Shield MFG., Inc. in 1972, serving as Chief Financial Officer and Director until his retirement in May of 2000. He was an avid golfer and Packers fan. Jim enjoyed traveling the United States and other countries. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Lutheran Church, the AICPA and WICPA Associations, Medford Library Foundation where he served on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer, Tee-Hi Golf Course Board of Directors and Black River Golf Club. He is survived by his wife Anna and 6 children: Gerard & Ellen of Ladysmith; Ken & Char of Sheldon; James & Cathy of Mesa, AZ; Dorothy & John Chechuck of Burgettstown, PA; Vincent & Helen of Bloomer and Steve & Carrie of Sheldon. Erv is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a sister, Sr. Teresa Schueller, OSM of Woodruff, WI.

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday; October 3rd, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Ladysmith with Fr. Chris Kemp and Deacon Doug Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Jump River, WI. The Schueller Family will receive friends at The Nash - Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith on Thursday after 4:00 PM where there will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM followed by Knights of Columbus Rosary. There will also be an hour of visitation at the Church on Friday prior to service time.

Joyce H. Ohlinger, age 86, of Colby, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Country Terrace in Abbotsford. A Mass of Christian will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 6, 2014 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. Interment will be held in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Colby. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 5 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford with a Rosary Service at 4:00 PM and on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church.

 

Joyce was born on December 11, 1927, the daughter of William and Agnes (Voelker) Schorer in the Town of Hull. She attended Pleasant Hill School and Colby High School. On July 28, 1945, Joyce was united in marriage to Charles Ohlinger at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. He preceded her in death on October 14, 1998.

 

She worked for Mr. B's in the produce department, Streckert Door Manufacturing and farmed in the Town of Hull, Stratford and Athens, retiring in 1988. Joyce moved to Colby in 1991.

 

She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and the PCCW and the Cherokee Homemakers. She enjoyed snowmobiling in her younger years, collecting stamps, playing cards and gardening.

 

Joyce is survived by her sister, Grace (William "Del") Knowles of Marshfield; two nieces, Judy Elpert of Marshfield and Jo (Lawrence) Hildebrandt of Chili and many many other nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; six sisters: Alice, Hilda, Nellie, Myrtle, Virginia and Stella; two brothers, Verland and Bill.

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: She drove St. Paul City Bus, worked at The Tile Shop, Cady Cheese and Andersen Windows for periods of time. She moved to Glenwood City in 1997. Along with her love of the farm, horses and wildlife, she loved the north woods, particularly the Lake Superior area & Madeline Island and the Whittlesey/Westboro area in the Chequamegan Forest where her parents live. She loved to cook and was always planning the next meal. Wreaths and rocks were her thing. She would scour the ditches & fields for plants she could use in her wreaths next fall and she had little piles of rocks all over the farm. She was an artist in everything she did.

Richard A. Immormino, age 46, of Jim Falls, passed away on Tuesday, September 30,

2014 peacefully at his home with his family by his side and under thecare of Mayo Clinic

Health System Hospice, Eau Claire. 

 

Rich was born June 21, 1968 in Joliet, IL the son of James & Susan (Upton) Immormino.

His family moved to the Jump River area and he went to Gilman High. Rich has worked

since most recently for Lunda Construction as a crane operator. He enjoyed riding his

Harley, camping, fishing, canoeing, deer hunting and entertaining and spending time with
family and friends. Rich will be remembered for his sense of humor.

 

Rich is survived by his finance, Barb Landis of Jim Falls, two sons, Dillon (Kendall)
Immormino of Superior and Andy Haroldson of Eau Claire, his mother, Susan
Immormino of Jump River, siblings, Jim (Cheri) Immormino of East Troy; Nina (Billy) 
Gray of Sandwich, IL; Kevin (Shelly) Immormino of Thorp, and Dave (Jessica)
Immormino of Gilman; plus many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is
preceded in death by his father, James in 2011.

  

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Noon at the
Christ Community Church in Jump River, WI. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until
time of service at the church. Plombon Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Mark Vincent Hirsch, 86 of Sparta, WI and formerly of Medford, WI, passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.

 

Mark was born in Medford, WI on January 8, 1928 to James Leo and Theresa M. (Brost) Hirsch. He graduated from Medford High School in 1947 and spent the next two years at the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. Mark returned to Medford to marry his high school sweet heart, Bernice Spreen, on August 26, 1950. Mark and Bernice moved to a small farm outside of Stetsonville, WI in 1951 until they moved their family of nine to Sparta, WI in August 1967 after Mark changed his career to insurance and later became a rural postal delivery person until he retired at age 72. Mark will be long remembered and cherished for his devotion to his family and his Catholic faith.

 

Mark is survived by his spouse of 64 years, Bernice (Spreen), and children Philip T (Huong) Hirsch, Golden Valley, MN, Dave G (Rita) Hirsch, Sparta, WI, Msgr Joseph W Hirsch, Lima, Peru, Mary T Hirsch-Justice, Onalaska, WI, Ann C (Orin) Johnson, Hayfield, MN, Leo W (Kristin) Hirsch, Sparta, WI, Paul M (Linda) Hirsch, Austin, MN, Vincent J (Tammy) Hirsch, Sparta, WI, Sr. Ancilla Christine Hirsch (Daughters of St Paul), Nuremburg, Germany and 22 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
He is further survived by his brothers and sisters, Leo J Hirsch, Chicago, IL, Eileen J Handel, Medford, WI, Marguerite A Klingbeil, Medford, WI, and Patrick R Hirsch, Lake Bluff, IL.

 

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Joseph J. Hirsch, and three siblings: Peter J Hirsch, Pensacola, FL, Marilyn E Strassman, Madison, WI and John R Hirsch, Medford, WI.

Carl C. Jakel, age 90, of Curtiss, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family under the tender care of hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. Interment will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery in Curtiss. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Monday, October 6 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford with a Prayer Service at 4:00 PM and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church.

 

Carl was born on October 1, 1924, in the Town of Mayville, the son of Charles and Anna (Wasmuth) Jakel. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Kathryn Prohaska on July 9, 1952 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. She preceded him in death on December 14, 2000.

 

Carl lived all his life on the family farm. He was a farmer, worked at Curtiss Feedmill and Curtiss Cheese Factory. Carl also served on the Clark County Board for 14 years and served as Mayville Town Supervisor for 18 years. His parents were pillars of the community and he was very knowledgeable about the history of the Curtiss area.

 

Carl enjoyed baseball, including playing and umpiring, playing cards, especially cribbage, and traveling. He was also a beekeeper in his younger years. Most of all, he loved his family.

 

Carl is survived by four sons: Michael (Sandra "Peanuts") Jakel of Dorchester, James (Jenny) Jakel of Abbotsford, Paul (Jean) Jakel of Abbotsford and Thomas (Rhonda) Jakel of Abbotsford; two daughters: Kathryn (Steven) Katka of Albany, MN and Mary Beth "Buffy" (Donald) Feddick of Abbotsford; daughter-in-law, Karen Jakel of Spencer; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother, Dale (Rita) Jakel of Barron; two sisters, Beatrice (Willis) Duncan of Queen Creek, AZ and Lucille Steiner of Tempe, AZ; a sister-in-law, Bernice Jakel of NC; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn; his son, Charles "Chuck"; four brothers, Arnold, Elmer, Dennis and Robert and a sister, Elaine.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pine Hill Cemetery Association.

Joseph Frank Wojcik, 76, Ogema, passed away on Monday, September 29. A memorial will be held Friday, October 10 starting at 4 p.m at Heindl Funeral home in Prentice.

 

Joe was born January 29, 1938 in Ogema to the late John and Marles (Kreklau) Wojcik. He attended Sunnyside Grade School and graduated from Prentice High School. On January 24, 1959 he married the late Sharon (Knight) Wojcik. They ran the Macky Spur Bar and also dairy farmed. He enjoyed old cars, bowling with this family, and working at his retirement business selling used truck parts. Joe was also a member of the National Guard.

 

Survivors include their six children, Joe (Julie), John, Eric and Virginia Annala, all of Ogema, Scott (Donna) of Prentice and Annie Wojcik of Medford; four sisters and one brother, Linda (Darrell) of Ogema, Kathy of Medford, Helen and Bernice of Wausau, and John of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife and one great-grandson.

Ellen worked at the Fayette Hotel and the Gas Light Restaurant, where she served many meals for the Kiwanis. Ellen did housework for Emma Fitch until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and trees. Ellen loved cooking, baking, sewing, making quilts and pillows.

Richard Henry Bergquist, 82, Prentice, died on Sunday, October 5, at Aspirus Medford Care and Rehab while under the care of his family and Hope Hospice.

 

He was born on January 11, 1932, in Prentice, Wisconsin, the son of Henry and Eleanor (Borondi) Bergquist. He was a 1950 graduate of the Phillips High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was married to Jessie Hood on July 14, 1961, in West Chicago, Illinois.

 

During his lifetime, he worked in the Chicagoland area with Bergquist Tree Experts, and then as a logger in Price County with Guzinski Timber in Prentice, as well as independently. In addition to logging he operated a dairy farm in Prentice for 21 years. He attended the Trinity Lutheran Church in Prentice, was a member of the Southern Price County VFW Post No 8491, and of the National Rifle Association. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in the outdoors.

 

He is survived by his wife, Jessie of Prentice. He is preceded in death by his parents, and by one brother, Lawrence Edward Bergquist.

 

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 9, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Prentice with Pastor Gary Uttech officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.

Shirley M. Weber, age 86, of Withee, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Clark County Health Care Center surrounded by her family under the tender care of hospice. A Rosary Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date in Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora, IL.

 

Shirley was born on February 9, 1928 in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Leo and Kathryn (Freiders) Swickert. She attended St. Nicholas Grade School and graduated from Madonna High School. On May 11, 1951, Shirley was united in marriage to George "Judd" J. Weber in Aurora, IL. The couple moved to the Withee area in 1994.

 

Shirley is survived by her husband of 63 years, George "Judd", Weber of Withee; her son, Charles J. Weber of Greenwood; two sisters: Joyce Vandemore of Kewanee, IL and Linda Wilkins of Donnellson, Iowa; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Gertrude E. Lampi, age 100, of Abbotsford, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. Rev. Dr. Gary Paul will officiate. Burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery in the Town of Hixon. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 AM until time of service Monday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

 

Gertrude was born on July 28, 1914 in Marquette, Michigan, the daughter of Matt and Fannie (Lukkala) Lampi. She attended the Bee Hive School in rural Owen until the eighth grade. Gertrude cared for her parents and then moved to Illinois in 1969. While in Illinois, she worked in Highland Park at the Moraine Hotel and Villa Moderne for 10 years and then worked at the Hearth Fair in Glenview. During her working career she was a waitress, housekeeper and a child care provider. Gertrude moved to Abbotsford in 2005.

 

Gertrude was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford.

 

She enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and 6 brothers and sisters; Signe Saari, Mary Peura, Matt O. Lampi, Ina Johnson, Joseph Lampi and Michael Lampi.

Kyanna Lynn Olson, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, October 8, 2014. She was born August 13, 2014 in Marshfield to Reid and Kimberly (Petersen) Olson. Her funeral service will be 3:00 pm Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee. Pastor Brian Campbell will officiate. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow the service at the Nazareth Lutheran Cemetery, Withee.

 

Kyanna is lovingly survived by her parents, Reid and Kimberly (Petersen) Olson of Owen, Sister, Kabella, maternal grandparents, Kaj and Loralee Petersen of Withee, paternal grandparents, Robert and Wendy Olson of Owen, Great Grandparents; Berry and Gerry Fetting of Abbotsford, Orlando and Sayoko Olson of Withee, Curtis and Nancy Garrett of Owen, and Russell and Donna Moyer of Barneveld, WI. Kyanna is further survived by her aunts and uncles; Kayne (Jodi) Olson of Owen, Carmen (Dan) Draheim of Manitowoc, Hailey (Devon) Schisel of Manitowoc, Walker Olson of Owen, Michael Petersen of Chippewa Falls, Stephanie Petersen of Withee, Trinity Petersen of Withee and Christina Josias of Omaha, Nebraska and cousins; Graysen and Anden Schisel and Avani Smith.

Kyanna is preceded in death by her Great Grandparents; Paul and Marlene Petersen and brother; Ryder Olson.

Leokadia “Lea” Fildes passed away on Wednesday, October 15 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a six month battle with cancer.

 

Leokadia Orszanski was born to Michael and Luba (Kulago) Orszanski on August 7, 1950 in Stanley, WI. Lea married Larry Fildes on April 24, 1982 in Tuscon, AZ. They have one daughter, Larissa. She recently retired after being a long time elementary school principal in Colby.

 

Lea is preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Luba Orszanski and survived by her husband, Larry Fildes, her brother, Leon Orszanski, of Clinton, WI, her sister, Alice Orszanski, of Marshfield, WI, and her daughter, Larissa Fildes, of Hudson, WI.

 

Visitation will be held at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen, WI on Sunday, October 19 from 4-7 p.m. followed by a prayer service. An additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 20 from 10-11 a.m. The second visitation will be followed by a procession to Holy Assumption Orthodox Church in Lublin, WI for the burial at noon. Father Ted Wojcik will officiate. All family and friends are welcome.

In 1958 they moved to Ogema where he began his career with the US Postal Service for the next 30 years working as a clerk and later postmaster until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, spending time with family and friends.
