Margaret M. Klewicki, age 97, of Fond du Lac formerly of Abbotsford, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Saint Francis Home in Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. Interment will be held in Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 AM until time of service Wednesday at the church.

 

Margaret was born on July 8, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Grajek) Budrus in Lublin, WI. She attended grade school in Lublin and was a graduate of Owen High School. She furthered her education at the Taylor County Teachers College in Medford, WI.

 

Margaret was joined in marriage to Edwin J. Klewicki on March 30, 1940 at Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin.

 

Margaret was proud to be a teacher and taught in Taylor and Clark County schools for 18 years. She very much enjoyed quilting, and handmade projects. Gardening was very important to her and she always had a beautiful garden. Margaret was also an avid coin collector.

 

Margaret is survived by her children: Kenneth J. (Sharon) Klewicki of Fond du Lac and Susan (George F.) Shaffer Sr. of Wausau, 8 grandchildren: Scott & Ann Marie (Nevalainen) Klewicki, Joseph & Tanae (Geisler) Klewicki, Amy Klewicki, Ryan & Cherie (Flanders) Klewicki, Karrie & Dan Edelman, Karla & Tim Builer, Kammi & Steve Norrington and Paul & Robin (Franks) Kordus. 13great-grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren, brothers and sister: George (Bernice) Budrus, Marcella Budrus and Edward Budrus.

 

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Edwin on October 7, 1995, her sister; Agnes Gryczkowski and sister-in law; Wanda Budrus.

Thelma M. Volger, Ph.D., passed away on June 2, 2015, at 98 years of age, in Medford, WI, where she was a resident of Aspirus Care & Rehab for the last several years. Born on December 21, 1916, Dr. Volger was the daughter of Muscatine, Iowa, residents Charles A. and Clara E. (nee Schwab) Henderson and sister to Merle C. Henderson. Thelma’s passions for music and teaching were fundamental to her life. Her musical accomplishments included: composing original music for plays, hymns and a wedding mass; hosting the Children’s Hour on KWPC; choir director; accomplished pianist and organist; earning her Ph.D. in music at the University of Iowa; professor with SUNY – Buffalo, Graylands Teachers College and the University of Western Australia; and founding and directing the Ankeny Academy of Music. Her research in the United States and Australia led to the development of the Language Delay Replication Project where she investigated the use of musical tones and rhythm patterns to help create language for children with autism. The study was featured in a documentary produced by Iowa Public Television. Thelma also loved flower and herb gardening, bird watching and was an avid reader.

 

Dr. Thelma Volger is survived by 3 daughters, Mary Eichlin, Thelma Winchell and her husband Robert Winchell, D.O., and Helen Volger and her husband Paul Weitzel, and 1 son, George Volger and his wife Patricia Volger. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her former husband, George J. Volger, 1 daughter, Dorothy, 2 granddaughters and 1 great-granddaughter.

 

The family will hold a memorial service in Iowa at a future date.

 

As a tribute, a practice room in the future University of Iowa School of Music will be named in Dr. Volger’s memory. Joe found his final calling at C.R.I. Recycling in Woodville where he was Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards at Gords with his buddies, fishing, working on the family cabin, and he loved playing with his nieces, nephews and cousins.

Floyd M. Juedes, 66, of Dorchester, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at St Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, June 19 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Dorchester where there will be a Rosary Service at 4:00 and on Saturday from 9:30 AM until time of service at the church. Inurnment will be held in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.

 

Floyd was born August 17, 1947 in the Town of Holton to Melvin and Ruth (Umlauft) Juedes. He attended Draper Grade School, St. Louis Catholic School and was a 1967 graduate of Colby High School. Floyd was a dairy farmer on a century farm and raised pheasants. He stocked his private pond with game fish and was a member of Ducks Unlimited.

 

Floyd donated land to the Dorchester Sportsmen's Club (of which he was a member) to establish a trap shooting range. He also shot trap in Thorp and at Sparky's Sport Shop in Colby. He was known to be a remarkable shot.

 

Floyd enjoyed playing cards at the VFW in Colby on Sunday afternoons as well as other locations in Athens, Stetsonville and Medford. He also enjoyed playing pool, dice and watching the Green Bay Packers with friends. Floyd also enjoyed hunting deer with his Dad, uncles, cousins and hunting buddies.

 

An avid bowler, Floyd bowled in Dorchester for Maurina Funeral Home and in Abbotsford for Wickersham Jewelers. During the last few years, Floyd had the privilege of being a passenger on his friend's (Ray Wehe) tractor/wagon rides that he truly enjoyed.

 

Floyd is survived by his sister, Karen (John) Danen of Farmington, MN; nephew, Kevin of Lakeville, MN; niece, Suzanne (Sean) Hanrahan and great-nephew, Donovan Hanrahan, 5 1/2 years old of Lakeview, MN.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin (2003) and Ruth (2014).

 

Floyd's loving spirit for people, especially children, will continue on, as he gave the gift of life by tissue donation through RTI Donor Services and the Lions Eye Bank of WI in partnership with St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Russ was a true outdoorsman, especially enjoying fishing and hunting. He loved his family and grandchildren, and will always be remembered for his heart of gold.

He then worked at Wells Manufacturing Company in Fon du Lac. Richard then moved to Medford in 1981 and worked for Phillips Plastics as a tool, die and mold maker. He later became a project engineer for Fiskars in Wausau where he retired from in 2000. In his retirement, he did consulting work for several companies. Richard enjoyed golfing, sailing, canoeing, traveling, carpentry, history, the Green Bay Packers, and he loved spending time with his family.

After the military, he resided in Phillips and worked at Flambeau Milling for a period of time. In 1958 they moved to Ogema where he began his career with the US Postal Service for the next 30 years working as a clerk and later postmaster until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, spending time with family and friends.

Lisa Jean Higgins, age 48, of Washburn, passed away, Thursday, June 18, 2015 at her home. She was born March 21, 1967 in Superior, the daughter of Richard and Irene (Steen) Higgins.

 

Lisa attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Medford Senior High in 1985. She worked various jobs following high school, including being a nanny in Washington DC and working as a waitress for several years. She moved to Washburn and has lived there for the last 20 years.

 

Lisa enjoyed reading, dancing and taking care of her dogs and cats. She volunteered at the Thrift Store in Washburn. She loved living by Lake Superior and calling and visiting with her family.

 

She is survived by her parents, Richard and Irene Higgins of Medford; brother, Duane "Red" (Lisa Marie) Higgins of Medford; 3 children, Hethar (Brian) Schaaf of Marshfield, Lucas Higgins of Medford and Cheyenne Higgins of Augusta; grandson, Shane Schaaf; niece Crystal (Mike) Schaaf; nephew, Jason (Maya) Higgins; great-nieces and nephews, Mariah Schaaf, Riley Higgins and Jayce Higgins; and her dog, Budd.

 

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Holy Rosary Catholic cemetery with Pastor Randal Jeppessen officiating.

Joann T. Kieser, age 84, of Abbotsford, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield at 7:44 AM. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. The Rev. Dr. Gary Paul will officiate. Inurnment will be held in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and from 10:00 AM until the time of service Wednesday at the church.

 

Joann was born October 12, 1930 in Wauwatosa, the daughter of Harley and Cora (Raasch) Voigt. She was united in marriage to Donald Kieser on July 17, 1954 in Wauwatosa. They moved to Athens and then lived the last 55 years in Abbotsford. Joann worked briefly as a substitute teacher and at Abby Cafe but mostly was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

 

She was an avid reader, played the violin and loved music, enjoyed bowling, playing cards and was a pet lover. Joann was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, and taught Sunday School for many years.

 

Joann is survived by her husband, Donald of 60 years; five children: Geoffrey (Ann) of Fayetteville, NC, Coralee (Patrick) Ellenbecker of Owen, Lori Leichtman of Abbotsford, Don (Paula) of Unity and Michael (Amy) of West Bend; 16 grandchildren: Robin, Angie, Geoff, Tristan, Leslie, Nita, Doug, Lora, Jenny, Brian, Seth, Molly, Maggie, Alex, Ethan and Maddie; nine great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her two sisters: Lois Stockey of Victoria Island, British Columbia, Canada and her twin sister, Joyce (Burton) Erenz of Greenfield; two brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Quade.

Harold LeRoy Oehler, 89, passed away June 25, 2015. He was born May 5, 1926, to Dewey and Sophie (Jacobs) Oehler. He married Margaret Strunk on May 28, 1946. Harold proudly served his country in the United State Navy as an Electrician’s Mate on the USS Piedmont in WWII from 1943 – 1946.

 

Harold and Margaret farmed in the Town of Holton for 46 years. Harold served on many cooperative boards, cemetery board and held several church offices.

 

He is survived by his wife Margaret, Doug (Janice) Oehler, Cheri (Dave) Baker, Kevin (Mary) Oehler, Kelley (Katie) Oehler, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Jim and Gary (Paula) and 3 sisters, Marcella (Bob) Bredlau, Leora (Jim) Reynolds and Nelrose Carpenter.

 

He was preceded in death by a son, Floyd and his parents Dewey and Sophie.

 

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday June 29, 2015 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Medford. Pastor Kim Swenson will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Interment at the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors will be provided by the Colby VFW post #2227. Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Dorchester is entrusted with the arrangements.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to a memorial fund for Harold established at Bethany Baptist church.

 

The family would like to thank Lakeview Heights Legacy for the loving care given to Harold and his family over the years.

MARRIAGE: May 26, 1933 to Wilbur J. Vetter and he preceded her in death on September 10, 1988

 

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: The couple farmed with Wilbur’s parents. Later they sold the farm and moved to Fond du Lac where Gertrude began a career at Sears in Management where she remained until her retirement. Much of Gertie’s life was devoted to family. In addition to working full time, she enjoyed sewing nearly all her own clothes and those of her family, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed cooking, especially for large family gatherings. After Wilbur’s retirement they traveled extensively, including four trips to Germany and five to Hawaii. She was also an extensive letter writer.

After their marriage they bought a farm west of Stetsonville where they farmed for 34 years. She moved to Abbotsford in 1990. Harriet worked at the Medford Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide for a number of years. She then worked at the Taylor County Human Services until her retirement in 1991. Harriet was a loving mother to 8 children and 5 foster children. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, baking, playing cards with her friends, whittling, telling stories, bird watching and she loved spending time with her family and friends.

JANICE B. VAN WINKLE, age 89, of Withee, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, in Marshfield. There will be no services held.

 

Janice Blythe Cowley was born on May 6, 1926 in Racine, WI, the daughter of Leo and Hazel (Blythe) Cowley. She was raised near Burlington, WI and graduated from Burlington High School in 1944. Jan then went on and completed 4 years at Carroll College. She was united in marriage to William Van Winkle on May 26, 1949. They owned and operated Rip's Round Up Bar in Withee. After they divorced, Jan renamed the bar, Black River Jan's, which she operated for a few more years. She resided in Thorp at the time of her death.

 

Jan had many interests, but especially enjoyed sewing, quilting, crossword puzzles and reading. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

 

She is survived by 3 sons: William (Sandra) Van Winkle of Glendale, AZ, James (Denise) Van Winkle of Scottsdale, AZ, Rory (Lynn) Van Winkle of Withee, WI; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one sister; Joy (Alex) Bolyanatz of Sun City West, AZ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; and 2 sisters: Marge Luebbers and Betty Guarino.

Dawn M. Olson, 54, Wausau died Saturday, July 4, 2015 surrounded by loving family and friends at Aspirus Wausau Hospital which she was admitted to that day.

 

She was born June 8, 1961 Memorial Hospital in Medford, daughter of Eugene and Judy (Brink) Olson, Medford.

 

Dawn graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1979. She continued her education at North Central Technical College in Wausau receiving an Associate Degree in Accounting. She moved to Wausau and worked for Service Master, Lutheran Social Services, Marathon County Social Services and Community Care Connections of Wisconsin. While working she earned her Bachelor Degree in Human Services graduating from Upper Iowa University in 1999. Dawn always enjoyed sports. She played softball, golf, and volleyball. She loved watching and cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badger football teams.

 

Dawn is survived by her parents Eugene and Judy Olson, Medford, her sister, Robin (Byron) Mallo, Medford, her brother, Scott (Liz) Olson, Medford, one niece, Ryann Mallo, and two nephews, Brandon Mallo and Zach Olson and special friends, Jackie Feck and Lois Hettinga, both of Wausau,.

 

Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. The Rev. Joy Nelson Jeffers will officiate. Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services all at the Stewart Avenue funeral Home.
