He was honored as Clark County Outstanding Farmer of the Year in 1972. He served as a director for the Dorchester Co-op & Cloverhill Co-op for periods of time. He enjoyed bird watching, making firewood, animals, hunting & gardening.

Lorraine Anne Killion, 96, former Fergus Falls, MN resident, passed away Friday May 20, 2016 at Aspirus Care and Rehab, Medford where she had been a resident for the last 2 years.

  Lorraine was born April 8, 1920 in Minneapolis, MN to Albert and Alice (Thor) Dongoske. Following her high school career she then went on to McPhale School of Music. She married Loren H. Killion on October 2, 1943 in Minneapolis. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1995.
  She is survived by her children; Ann (Robert) Rusch of Rib Lake, WI, Barbara (William) Weber of Fargo, ND, Frederick (Karen) Killion of Florence, AZ, eight Grandchildren, nine Great Grandchildren, three Nephews and one niece.

  Lorraine is also preceded in death by her parents, Sister Jane Carlson, Brother in Law Roger Carlson, and several aunts and uncles.

  Lorraine worked for Ottertail Power Company as a secretary. She had a passion for music that remained with her throughout her life. She held the position of Organist and Choir director for several churches in Tennessee, Minneapolis, Detroit, Fargo and Fergus Falls. She deeply loved her family, and enjoyed visiting her grandchildren throughout the country. Lorraine was an excellent fisherwoman. She loved to take casino trips with friends, playing Bridge, and entertaining nursing home residents by playing the piano. Lorraine will be remembered by her many talents, especially her love for orchestrating events.
  She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Westboro, and The Hospital Bridge Marathon.

  A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday May 26, 2016 at First Lutheran Church in Westboro, Pastor Linda Strader will officiate. Visitation will be held at First Lutheran Church beginning at 10:00 until the time of services at 11:00. Cremation rites have been accorded, burial will take place at a later date at Ft. Snelling in Minneapolis.

  Memorial Donations in honor of Lorraine may be given to her familyfor designation at a later date.

Donald W. Nelson, age 82, of Stevens Point, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Portage County Health Care Center surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

  Donald was born November 25, 1933 to the late Chester & Gertrude (Strebig) Nelson in Medford, WI.     He grew up on the family farm in the town of Hammel and attended Meadowbrook grade school. He graduated from Medford High School in 1951 and attended a short course in farming at UW-Madison.
Donald married Alice Blasel at Zion Lutheran Church on September 6, 1958 in Stetsonville, WI. They had three daughters, Cindy, Beth, & Sharon.
  Donald operated heavy equipment for P.C. Kaiser from 1956 to 1964, working on the WI interstate system out of Portage, WI. He was a semi truck driver most of his working career; driving for Neuendorf Transportation and Steel King Industries in Stevens Point, WI. Donald retired in 1997. From 2004 to 2013, Donald drove potato truck for Wysocki Potato Company during harvest season.
  One of his greatest lifetime achievements was driving 4.2 million accident free miles. He was awarded Mack Truck’s Million Mile Award in 1974. He was also Driver of the Month by Wisconsin Motor Carrier in September 1980 and was acknowledged for his outstanding service as a professional driver in February of 1981 by Motor Carriers Association.
  In his free time, Donald enjoyed camping with his family, water skiing, snowmobiling, and snow skiing.   After retirement, they purchased a motor home and became full time RV’ers, living summers in Canada and winters in Texas. He spent time fishing in Wisconsin, Canada, and Texas. He and his wife, Alice, hunted deer, elk, & moose in Wisconsin, Wyoming, Texas & Canada.
  Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice Nelson of Stevens Point; daugthers, Cindy (Mike) Marczak of Stevens Point, Sharon (Tim) Maloney of Avon, IN, and son-in-law, Kirk Schield of Two Harbors, MN; 7 grandchildren, Daniel, Benjamin, Anna, & Sara Schield, Trevor & MacKenzie Maloney, and Dean Marczak. He is further survived by sister, Shirley Kruescher of Stetsonville, WI; mother-in-law, Leona Blasel; along with other beloved family.
  He is preceded in death by daughter, Beth Schield; his parents; and father-in-law, Ed Blasel.
  A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas Petersen officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 25th at the Boston Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and also on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Committal will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.

Walter "Butch" Lindahl

Walter Loyd “Butch” Lindahl, 92, of Medford, passed away Sunday May 22, 2016 at Aspirus Care and Rehab.

  Butch was born in High Bridge, WI, April 8, 1924 to Ernest and Pauline (Seaquist) Lindahl. He married Shirley H. Kleist at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville on October 19, 1946. She survives.
  Butch is also survived by his children; Beverly (Dale) Schroeder of Stevens Point, and Steven (Gloria) Lindahl of Medford. Grandchildren Troy (Kiersten) Schroeder, Eric Lindahl, Adam (Mindy) Lindahl, Darcy (Jeremy) Wall, Angela Lindahl, and Heather Lindahl. And 6 Great Grandchildren. He is further survived by Sister In Law Pauline Lindahl of Washington State and many nieces and nephews.
  He is preceded in death by his Parents, Son Lloyd Lindahl, and Brothers Virgil and Eugene Lindahl, and infant brother Lloyd Lindahl.
  Butch served his country in the US Army Medic Corps from 1943 – 1946. He then drove truck for Ben Reusch in Minong, WI and also was employed by Niemuth Implement Company in Stetsonville. In 1951 Butch began long-distance truck for Neuendorf Trucking, driving to Chicago. In 1981, Butch retired from trucking and then worked part time selling cars for Mertens Garage. He was a charter member of the Stetsonville American Legion Post 519, Medford VFW Post 5729, past member of the Thursday Night Mens Golf League, 710 Teamsters Union in Chicago and served as President of the Church Council of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville for six years.
  Funeral Services for Butch Lindahl will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday May 25, 2016 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stetsonville. Rev. James H. Babler will officiate. Burial will take place in Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. His Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Military Rites will be presented by the Stetsonville American Legion Post 519. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford Chapel, on Tuesday May 24, 2016 and also at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church on Wednesday May 25, 2016 from 10:00 – 10:45.

  Arrangements have been entrusted with Hemer Funeral Service of Medford and Rib Lake.

Raymond W. Hackel, age 93, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2016 surrounded by his family at Golden Living Center-Continental Manor in Abbotsford.  A memorial service be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, May 25 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford.  Father Charles Hiebl will officiate.  Interment will be held at St. Thomas in Milan.  Family and friends are welcome from 2:00 PM until the time of the service on Wednesday at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford.

  Raymond was born on September 8, 1922, in the Town of Holton, the son of Albert and Sadie (Speck) Hackel.  He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Irma Hoernke on April 6, 1946 at the priest's house in Wuertzberg.

  Raymond was a farmer.  He farmed until the age of 62.  Other jobs include hauling milk and driving a gravel truck. 

  Raymond enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, gambling and weeding ginseng. He was also a big Cub's fan and Packer fan. Most of all, he loved his family.

  Raymond is survived by his wife: Irma Hackel; eight children:  Judy (Daniel) Maroldy, CA, Mike (Cheri) Hackel of Abbotsford, Wendy King of Watertown, Julie (Roger) Thieme of Colby, Kathy (Roy) Welcher of Cameron, Ken Hackel of Abbotsford, Paula (Bruce) Erickson of Athens, and Paul (Tracy) Hackel of Medford; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a brother: Howard Hackel and a sister: Celia Venzke.  He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

  He was preceded in death by a brother: Isadore Hackel and a sister: Marie Hummes.

Lorraine M. Smith, age 98, of Owen passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Clark County Health and Rehab Center in Owen under the care of Hope Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. Reverend Ronald Johnson will officiate.  Family and friends are welcome from 12:00 noon until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Withee. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is entrusted with the arrangements.

Lorraine was born on August 19, 1917, the daughter of Arthur and Agda (Anderson) Hjertstedt in Chicago,IL. Lorraine was united in marriage to Robert F. Smith Sr. on November 23, 1940 in Chicago at Saint Priscilla Catholic Church.

Lorraine graduated from high school in Chicago. She was the Director and Coordinator of the Owen Senior Center from 1978 until 1992.

Lorraine enjoyed sports, especially track and field, she was an avid Packer fan and loved to play cards. Her nick name was “Pee Wee.”     

Lorraine is survived by her children: Robert (Mary) Smith of Green Bay, Bruce (Lorraine) Smith of Hoffman Estates, IL, Kathy Nesbitt of Wausau, Thomas (Sue) Smith of Tomah and David (Mary) Smith of Boyd, 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. She is further survived by her twin sisters: Millie Crawford and Margaret Buck of Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert; her parents, and her siblings: Dorothy, Gladys, Fred, Nancy, Bernice, Richard, Gwendolyn and Audrey and a son-in-law; Ryan Nesbitt.

After their marriage, they moved to Medford & he worked at Tombstone Pizza for 28 years until ill health forced his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mechanic work, fishing trips to Canada & Lake Erie, spending time at the family cabin in Taylor County.

Clarence O. Ramm, 93, of Medford, died Thursday, May 26, 2016.  A memorial gathering will be held from 11:00 AM - 4 PM at Ray Ramm's house ( N3672 Shattuck Ave, Medford WI ) on Saturday, June 18, 2016. Inurnment will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Taylor County. 

  Clarence was born February 21, 1923 at home in Medford to Willham and Gertrude (Zastrow) Ramm.    He attended Pleasant Heights and Immanuel Lutheran School.  Clarence married Jessie Porter on July 11, 1945 in Medford. 
  Clarence was a dairy farmer, until retirement in 1985.  He also worked at various  places including: Hurd Millwork, Metzler Monuments, logging, and enjoyed driving for the Amish.   
  Clarence is survived by his seven children: Gerald of Stanley, Alvin (Marie), Jean, Donald, Lola, Ray (Ester Truckey) and Lucy Hanish all of Medford, nine grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by three sisters: Ella Hommel, Betty Zuleger, and Joyce Ramm.  
  He was preceded in death by his wife: Jessie (December 2003), two children: David Ramm and Joan Keuffer, two sisters: Emma and Ruth and a brother: Ferdinand.

Betty Lou Schneider, 87, passed away Monday May 30, 2016 at Aspirus Care and Rehab in Medford.

  Betty was born June 8, 1928 in Spirit, Wisconsin to George and Sadie (Salvesen) Meier. She attended Liberty Grade School in Spirit. She married Walter J. Schneider on February 8, 1947 in Rib Lake, Wisconsin. Walter preceded her in death on July 3, 1996.
  Betty is survived by her children Sharyn (Robert) Thompson of Medford, Michael Schneider of Bruce, LuAnn (David) Heidmann of Wausau, Daniel (Sheila) Schneider of Rib Lake, Matthew Schneider of Rib Lake. Grandchildren Tara (Brad) Carstensen, Tim (Laura) Thompson, Jason (Angela) Schneider, Michael (Nicole) Schneider, JR., Cassandra Schneider, Liberty Heidmann, Ryan Heidmann, Derrick Schneider, Dustin Schneider, Dilan Schneider, Sister Gardia Arredondo of Milwaukee.
Betty is also preceded in death by her Parents, and siblings Dorothy Vlach, Ardis Koepsel, Norma Miller, Bunetta Drew, Lora Thums, Glen, George, Owen and Jack Meier.
  Following her education, Betty moved to Milwaukee where she watched over four children as a mother’s helper. She then moved back to Spirit where she met Walter shortly after his return from World War II. Betty and Walter owned a dairy farm in Rib Lake, and worked on the farm until 2006. Betty enjoyed to travel with friends. She traveled to Switzerland with friends and family, and also throughout the United States. She enjoyed the outdoors farming and gardening. She cherished her time with family, especially her grandchildren.
  Betty was of the Catholic faith, and was a member at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake.
  Funeral Services for Betty will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday June 3, 2016 at Hemer Funeral Home, Rib Lake Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service, at the funeral home. Pastor Michael Meier will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.Hemer Funeral Service of Medford and Rib Lake have been entrusted with arrangements.

MEMBER OF: Kevin was a member of the Senior Golf League at The Black River Golf Course and cribbage league at B.S. Catering. He was a past member of various softball leagues, bowling leagues, and foosball leagues.

Isabelle "Issy" P. Brenner, age 84, of Abbotsford, formerly of Curtiss, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield in Palliative Care with her family by her side.  A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday June 9, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Curtiss.  Pastor Kris Bjerke-Ulliman will officiate.  Interment to follow at the Pine Hill Cemetery.  Friends and family are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and from  10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. 

  Isabelle was born July 18, 1931 in Owen, the daughter of Paul and Alvira (Wachsmuth) Stumpner.    She was united in marriage to Alvin Brenner on January 19, 1952 at Emmanuel Lutheran church in Longwood.  He preceded her in death on May 13, 2005.  Isabelle worked at the Clark County Health Care Center in the laundry department for many years.

  Isabelle was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Curtiss.  She also was a member of the Curtiss Community Club.  Isabelle enjoyed music, reading, and gardening.  She also loved her "sister weekends".  Most importantly, Isabelle loved spending time with her family.

  Isabelle is survived by her five daughters: Janice Collins of Madison, Debbie (Jim) Sheets of Plymouth, Karen Brenner of Spencer, Susan (Doug) Bauer of Unity, and Shari (Todd) Kaiser of Spencer; nine grandchildren:  Amy Collins, Brian (Kim) Sheets, Lynne (Kevin) Seubert, Brad and Matthew Wilke, Josh and Jesse Bauer, Kelsey and Lindsey Kaiser; two great-grandchildren:  Oliver and Estella Sheets.  She is further survived by 11 brothers and sisters:  Kathleen Ryba, Mary Jane Tracy, Barb Soback, Kenny Stumpner, Linda (Maurice) Sterken, Lila (Mick) Thayer, Carolyn Smazal, Jenny (Bill) Schuette, Paul (Julie) Stumpner, Joe Stumpner and Cindy (Doug) Hayes; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; her daughter, Diane in 1961, three brothers: Eugene, Dale and Eddie Stumpner and a son-in-law, Jim Collins.

MARRIAGE: Married Carol L. Sheets on June 11, 1958 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Curtiss.

 

PRINCIPLE EVENTS IN LIFE: Norman grew up on a dairy farm in the Town of Holway. Following high school, Norman enlisted in the US Army. He then served in Germany for two years, where he was a Jeep Mechanic and driver in the Motorpool. Upon returning home, he worked briefly for Hurd Window Company, and also drove milk and logging truck. Norman worked construction on Highway 41, heading south out of Milwaukee, and drove the cement roller. He then worked as a welder for American Motor Company in Kenosha. Norman and Carol moved to Curtiss, WI and worked for Packaging Company of America where he was employed for 32 years, and retired in the mid 1990’s. Norman loved to bird and deer hunt with the “Olson Gang.” He had a passion for mechanics, and became quite skilled. He thoroughly enjoyed polka music. He and Carol would often attend polka concerts and dances throughout Wisconsin. Norman loved his family, and will always be remembered as a humble and patient man, who was an excellent example of a Husband, Father and Grandfather.

Throughout most of his life, he worked as a self-employed logger. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, auctions, spending time visiting with family and many close friends, always leaving them with a smile.

Diego D. Zuniga-Badillo, age 21, of Abbotsford, passed away as the result of an automobile accident on Saturday, June 18, 2016.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:30 PM on Thursday, June 23, 2016  at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford.  Father Tim Oudenhoven will officiate. A Christian Wake will be held from 12:00 noon until 6:00 PM on Thursday, June 23 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford.

  Diego was born July 7, 1994, the son of Jose and Josefina (Badillo) Zuniga in Juarez, Mexico.
  Diego is survived by his parents, Jose and Josefina; his girlfriend, Kristen Lustila and their son, Ayden; three brothers and two sisters:  Cristian, Bryan, Nancy, Alma and Ricardo.  He is further survived by his maternal grandparents:  Jose and Carmen Badillo; many Aunts and Uncles, Cousins, other relatives and friends.
  He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.
  He is loved as a brother, son, friend, lover and father. Diego was a great guy, and one of a kind with a heart of gold. He loved to go fishing, four wheeling, hanging out with friends, working on his truck, and most of all he loved his son Ayden.  We all love and miss you very much, and know you're watching over us from up above. Until we see you again.

A él le gustaba ir de pesca, viajar en su cuatrimoto, salir con los amigos, y, sobre todo, amaba a su hijo, Ayden. Todos te queremos y te extrañamos mucho, y sabemos que estás velando por nosotros desde arriba, hasta que nos veamos de nuevo.

PRINCIPLE EVENTS IN LIFE: After high school, Sylvia worked for several small cafes in Iowa. She then moved to Stratford, WI where she worked as a manager for Family Dollar in Colby. In 2001, Sylvia owned and operated Hannah’s Hen House in Edgar. Sylvia and Tom then farmed for a short period of time before opening Hannah’s Hen House in Rib Lake in August of 2014. She loved to collect chicken memorabilia and key chains, attend auctions and her children’s events and concerts. Sylvia was a die-hard Iowa Hawk Eye fan, she liked to bake, cook, watch the sunset and she loved spending time with her family and friends.

HELYN K. (RUGE) HEIER

 

  Born to Edgar and Helen Ruge, January 24, 1915

  On June 22, 2016, our Helyn passed away of natural causes. Survivors include seven children, 5 boys and 2 girls; sons David (Darlene Tomczyk) Heier, Gregory (Maureen Ackeret) Heier, Tracy (Kathy Wilcox) Heier, Neal “Bud” Heier, Stuart ”Bomber”(Laura Potaczak) Heier all of Medford; daughters Camille  (Willard) Anderson of Wausau, Edith (Robert)  Hoock of Abbotsford; Twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

  Helyn was preceded in death by her husband Alfred “Fritz” Heier in December 1976, her daughter-in-law Nora (Zerngible) Heier in April 2001, brother Ernie and two sisters Elaine and Dorothy.

  Services for Helyn will take place at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford with Father Phil Juza and Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until time of services Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford. Pallbearers will be Willard & Eric Anderson, Robert Hoock, Shizue Teal, Wyatt & Rachael Heier.

  Helyn was born in the Town of Little Black. She married Fritz Heier on August 20, 1939. Helyn and Fritz purchased a farm in the Town of Little Black on a Land Contract, starting from scratch having to purchase a dairy herd, machinery and remodel a farmhouse with no running water, electricity or insulation.

  Helyn attended Holy Rosary Catholic School in Medford and graduated from Medford High School. Helyn then attended the Green Bay State Vocational School earning a degree in accounting and business.

  Helyn’s career began as a receptionist/stenographer for the State Civil Service-Wefare Department later being appointed State Assistant Court Reporter and a court reporter for the various courts for Taylor County.

  After thirty years, Helyn retired and became a free-lance court reporter for several Attorneys in Taylor County. She also did free-lance tax accounting.

  Helyn did all this while raising seven children; her motto being “Family First”. Helyn did find time for enjoyment. She liked the challenge of a good game of bridge, playing bridge in several clubs and the bridge marathon over the years. Knitting and sewing were a necessity as well as a craft and hobby. Roses were Helyn’ favorite flower and she always had rose bushes blooming in the yard all summer.  Two special places Helyn had traveled to were to the Vatican in Rome and  LasV egas to see the Liberace show. She never missed the Liberace or the Lawrence Welk weekly show on TV.  

  After Fritz died in 1976, Helyn embarked on her second thirty-year career as Administrative Assistant and Accountant at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, retiring in 2008. Since then, she had been busy hosting family get-togethers, playing cards and hunting down bargains at garage and estate sales. 

  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Helyn’s name to Holy Rosary Catholic School in Medford.
