EDUCATION: Lorraine attended Forest View Graded School and was a 1940 graduate of Phillips High School.

 

MARRIAGE: On December 20, 1942 at a Methodist Church in Chicago, IL, Lorraine married the love of her life Harold Tillman and he preceded her in death in 1994

 

PRINCIPLE EVENTS IN LIFE: After high school, Lorraine moved to Chicago, and worked at the Mars Candy Company and at Douglas Air Craft during WWII working on B29’s. In 1977 she retired and moved back to her family homestead in Ogema. She enjoyed playing the Hand & Foot card game, eating chocolates, baking, being with her family, sewing, especially the raffle quilt for the Christmas Tree Festival and hosting the family reunion during the Christmas Tree Festival.

Victor Rolland, 92 of Stanley, died Monday, April 18, 2016 at Country

Terrace-Stanley under the care of Heartland Hospice. He was born on
April 7, 1924 to the late Severt and Agnes (Finstead) Rolland. Vic grew
up in the Rice Lake area and entered the Navy during WWII. On June
21, 1947 he married Shirley Raether at Zion Lutheran Church in
Gilman.
  Vic farmed for a time, was a milk hauler, drove truck for Jim Berseth the
Stanley Corp and retired trucking millions of miles for Dart. He was a
lifelong member of the American Legion, was a former member of the
Silver Spur Club and had a passion for horses. Vic so enjoyed taking
children for rides with the horses. He will be dearly missed by many.
  He is survived by his son, Bruce Rolland of Thorp, Bonita (Steve)
Weisfeld of Stanley, four grandchildren, Trevor Webster, Tracie
Webster-Weathers, Tanner Webster and Roxanne Benson, 9 great
grandchildren, his sister, Dolores Schmidt of Stockton, WI and two
brothers, Gordon of St. Germain and Glen Rolland of Los Vegas, NV.
Victor is preceded in death by his wife (2011), his parents, brothers,
Selmer, Severt Jr., Edgar and sisters, Lillian Wiebel, Myrtle Hazelburg
and a sister in infancy.
  A memorial service will be 1PM on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the
Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley. Visitation will be from 11AM until
time of service. Inurnment will follow in the East Side Cemetery-Thorp

Enjoyed hobby farming & raising veal calves while working as a machinist, mold maker for Phillips Plastics in Medford and later Fiskar’s in Wausau. In 1992 they moved to the Village of Stetsonville. After retiring, he spent many years serving as a volunteer driver for the Taylor Co. Commission on Aging. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting with his sons and grandsons, ice fishing with his daughter and floating on his pontoon while enjoying the wildlife on shore.

Elda Louise Burtard

Elda Louise Burtard, age 101, of Abbotsford, formerly of Owen, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield surrounded by her family.  A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford.  The Rev. Asafa Rajaofera will officiate.  Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Town of Mayville.  Family and friends are welcome from 10:30 am until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Elda was born on July 25, 1914 to Emil and Elizabeth (Buss) Buss in Green Grove.  Elda was united in marriage on November 22, 1933 to John Burtard in Curtiss and they were blessed with five children. She loved to be a homemaker, and a farmer's wife.  Elda and John would enjoy taking a break from the farm, and headed to their shack in Rice Lake.  They also owned the DX Station in Owen for a few years.

 

Elda loved to fish.  Elda was a lady not afraid to get her hands dirty and even enjoyed cleaning her own fish.  She enjoyed playing cards, she knew every card game you could think of.   But most importantly, she loved being a grandma to all her grandchildren.  

 

Elda is lovingly survived by her five children; Kenneth Burtard (friend, Christine), Carol (Ronald) Hofmann, Elaine (Ambrose) Schuh, Orville Burtard, and Sally (Herbie) Bloom; and over 100 total grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.  She is further survived by a sister, Linda Hill; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, John on May 2, 1980, 1 brother, Henry (Gertrude) Buss, and 3 sisters: Emma (Lloyd) Haemer, Minnie (Jack) Schneider, Anna (Robert) Schneider; a grandchild; Donald;  a great-grandson; Sean Kennedy,  a daughter-in-law, Diane and a brother-in-law, Rueben Hill.

Max E. Ramker, age 92, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM Thursday, April 28 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford, officiated by Father Peter Manickam. A Visitation will be held Thursday  from 8:30 AM-10:30 AM, followed by the rosary starting at 10:30 on Thursday at St. Bernard's. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Colby following the service.


Max was born September 18, 1923 in Greene, Iowa to John and Edith (Adams) Ramker. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Colby. Max was joined in marriage to his wife, Bonnie Voelker , on September 16, 1944 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Bonnie and Max owned and operated their farm until they retired in 1977. Max bred cows for Piper Brothers, drove truck for Harmony Coop, and did woodworking in his basement. 

Max enjoyed fishing and hunting up at his cabin on Mead Lake.  But most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his family; especially those precious grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.    

He is survived by his 7 children; Sandy Asplund of Colby, Mary (Dan) Lewis of Depere, Debbie (Mel) Kurszewski of Milwaukee, Mike (Linda) Ramker of Davenport, Iowa, Dan (Carrie) Ramker of Colby, Dawn (Craig) Lieders of Colby, and John (Jenny) Ramker of Colby. He is further survived by 27 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and his sister; Betty Peterson;  along with many other nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members.

Max is preceded in death by his wife; Bonnie (November 19, 2010), his son; Sam Ramker, three sisters; Velma Becker, Bernice Korner, and Maxine Ramker and three brothers; Virgil Ramker, Melvin Ramker, and Merlin Ramker.

Bernard W. Miller, age 68 of the Town of Holway, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at his residence, under the tender care of Hope Hospice. A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Interment will be held in Hillcrest Cemetery in the Town of Spirit, Taylor County. Family and friends are welcome from 1:00 PM until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.   Bernard was born on July 21, 1947, the son of William and Norma (Meier) Miller in Prentice, WI. He attended Prentice High School. Bernard worked for the Chicago Northwest Rail Road in Milwaukee and the oil fields in Texas for a number of years and most recently logged in Ely, MN, Custer, SD, and in Price County, WI until becoming disabled. They then purchased a hobby farm in the Town of Holway.       Bernard married Brenda Komarek on June 22, 1987 in Bessemer, MI.
  Bernard loved to garden,tending his animals on his hobby farm, canning, traveling, singing (especially Johnny Cash music) and reading history books.
  Bernard is survived by his wife: Brenda Miller of Medford, children: Dawn Schlenvogt of Port Washington, Clifford Miller of Port Washington, Wendy (Terrance) Hart of Fredonia, Heidi (Trampus) Geiger of Athens, Heather (Thomas) Fox of Dorchester and Isaac (Kristina Hermanson) of Mosinee, grandchildren: Dakota, Amber, Skylar, Jordan, Sophia, Leigha, Benjamin, Jayden, Riley and Payton. He is further survived by his brother: James Miller and a sister: Nelda Phillips.

MARRIAGE: On June 25, 1947 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, Chester married the love of his life Bernadine Scheithauer and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2012

 

PRINCIPLE EVENTS IN LIFE: After school Chester worked for his father at Brahmer & Earl Concrete Co. for 5 years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1943 until 1946, where he achieved the rank of Corporal and received a good conduct medal and marksman. After his service, Chester returned to the Rib Lake area and worked at Hurd Windows Mfg. in Medford from 1946 to 1954. He then opened Chet & Bernie’s Tavern in the Town of Greenwood, and operated it for 55 years until his retirement in 2008. Chet played baseball for various leagues and played softball for Hurds. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, staying at the cabin at the lake, playing cribbage and cards, ice fishing, tending bar and serving his customers and community. Chet also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

 

MEMBER OF: OLPH Catholic Church, Whittlesey; Past member of Taylor County Tavern League, Interwald Wanderers Snowmobile Club, Taylor County Sportsman’s and was a lifetime member of the Medford V.F.W.

Delores Margaret Kiefer, age 92, of Abbotsford, passed away May 2, 2016 at her home, with her family by her side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on May 7, 2016  at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford.  Father Peter Manickam will officiate. A visitation will be held at the church on May 7, from 9:00 AM until the time of service.  

 

Delores was born December 11, 1923 in the town of Hull to John and Rose (Thorn) Brill.  Delores is a graduate of Colby High School.  Soon after she met Raymond Kiefer and they married June 12, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Together they had 8 children which were the love of her life and they farmed in the town of Holton until 1984.   

 

Delores was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW), and was the President of The National Catholic Order of Foresters for many years. She enjoyed dancing with her husband, sewing, baking, crocheting, playing cards, and spending time with her beautiful grandchildren.  Delores and Raymond loved to travel.  They  traveled all over the world to places like; Hawaii, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and all 50 states.

 

Delores is survived by her husband; Raymond:  five sons; Ronald of Colby, Larry (Cheryl) of Hawaii, Dan (Robyn) of Abbotsford, Tom of Bear Creek, and Mark (Krish) of Wauconia, MN, and three daughters; Rose (Ken) Solberg of New London, Trish (Brad) Podevels of Colby, and Michelle (Jeff) Wellsandt of Colby.  She is further survived by 14 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren, 6 great- great grandchildren.

 

Delores is preceded in death by her siblings; Mary Ann, Leona, John, and Betty.

Constance "Connie" Goodman Stack

Constance Goodman Stack, 83, of Baraboo, Wi. passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Golden Living Center in Wisconsin Dells.

  She was born on July 8, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John and Estelle Goodman of Medford. On Dec.21, 1954, she was married to Eugene Stack of Baltimore, Maryland at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. Eugene and Connie met in the state of Maine where both were youth camp counselors while in college.
  After graduating from Medford High School in 1950, Connie graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a major in physical education and was later employed as a recreation director.     She loved to stay active and played and coached tennis and volleyball. She enjoyed reading novels and caring for her plants. Connie’s faith was most important to her and became stronger as time went on. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and school in Baraboo. She also served on the Baraboo Parks and Recreation Board for a number of years. She loved her family with a fond love for her 9 grandchildren.
  Survivors include her four children, Eugene (Susan) Stack Jr., of Delavan, Patrick (Laura) Stack, of Baraboo, Laura (Tim) Stack-Gorman, of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Kevin (Jamie) Stack, of Sun Prairie; sister, Judi (Mark) Seidl, of Wausau; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, as well as her sister-in-law Donna Goodman, of Medford, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Stack; and her brother, Jack Goodman.
  Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Medford.

PRINCIPLE EVENTS IN LIFE: He was a WW II veteran having served from 1943-1945 in the European Theatre. After the military, he returned to Medford and worked as a clerk at the Co-op Store for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed dancing, gardening, playing cards, reading and traveling.

Pamela J. Mueller, age 51, of Withee, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at her home with her family by her side. Family and friends are welcome from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen on Saturday,  May 7, 2016. Private interment will be at Riverside in the Town of Hixon following the visitation.

  Pamela was born on August 15, 1964, the daughter of Gary and Bonnie (Shilts) Englebretson in Neillsville, WI. She attended Greenwood High School and graduated in 1982.  Pamela was joined in marriage to Michael Mueller on April 15, 1982 in Neillsville, WI.  Together they raised 3 wonderful children; Justin, Geoff, and Kaley in Owen-Withee.

  Pamela was blessed to be able to watch her grandchildren for the last 8 years.  She loved her family and spending time with her family.  She enjoyed fishing, camping, and loved bird watching, especially cardinals.  She also enjoyed gardening.

  Pamela is survived by her husband: Michael; three children: Justin (Heather), Geoff (Morgan), Kaley (Rollan) Johnson; seven grandchildren: Kendall Mueller , Madilyn Mueller, Talon Mueller, Clay Mueller , Mackinley Mueller, Kasil Mueller, and Aubrianna Johnson; her parents: Gary and Bonnie;  and 3 sisters: Penny (Louie) Hebert, Lisa (Johnny) Barker, and Lora (Dave) Lindner.

Roy Byron Clarkson,90, a town of Hammel resident, passed away Wednesday May 4, 2016 at Aspirus Medford Hospital in Medford.

  Roy was born July 6, 1925 in Medford the late Clarence “Dick” and Minnie Clarkson. He attended the Sawyer Dam School, in the town of Grover.
  On September 1, 1945 he married Elsie Nadler at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Medford. They spent 70 years of marriage together. Elsie survives.
  Roy is also survived by his daughter Darlene (Kent) Staab of Medford, Step Grandchildren; Marshall Staab, Travis (Jennifer) Staab, Nicole (Matt) Cassis, Step Great Grandchildren Jacob and Paul Cassis, Brother Don (Evelyn) Clarkson of Medford, Sister in Law Ardis Clarkson of Medford, and many nieces and nephews.
 He is preceded in death by his Parents, Sister in Law Dorothy Clarkson, Brothers Ervin and Lester.
  Roy took up welding in Merrill, then worked for the Medford Highway Department for seven years. He then started to work for Hurds Millwork for 35 years, retiring from there in 1990. He enjoyed making firewood, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and gardening. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Medford.
 A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Saturday May 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Brian Mundt will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM. A private committal service will take place at Medford Evergreen cemetery at a later date.
Memorial Donations in honor of Ray may be given to his family, for designation at a later date.

Ricky Harold Nikkila, 59, Marshfield, former Town of Hill, Ogema resident, died in the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, May 2.

  He was born on January 30, 1957, in Phillips, the son of Bessie and Harold Nikkila. He attended the Prentice High School. He was employed by Marathon Cheese and by Phillips Plastics Corporation. While living in Ogema he attended the First Lutheran Church in Ogema. In his free time he enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, camping, and riding his motorcycle.
  He is survived by one brother, Kenneth (Nancy), Westboro, WI; by one sister, Cynthia (Thomas) Graun, Athens, WI; by a sister-in-law, Candis Nikkila, Westboro; by three nephews, Kenneth and Kevin Nikkila, Matthew Graun; and by one niece, Kimberly Graun; and by great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Dennis.
  Memorial services will be held at the Heindl Funeral Home in Prentice at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 12, with Pastor Linda Strader of the First Lutheran Church of Ogema officiating. Inurnment will be in the Levitt Creek Cemetery in the Town of Hill. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. until the time of services.

William "Bill" Sweda, age 78, of Colby, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016
at Aspirus Wausau Hospital surrounded by his family after a tragic farming
accident.
  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at
Holy Assumption Orthodox Church in Lublin.
Military honors will be provided by the Lublin American Legion Post #547. 

  Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13
at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, and Saturday from
10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church in Lublin.
  Serving as pallbearers are:
John Sweda, Harry Sweda, Jr., Duane Kowalczyk, Scott Kowalczyk, Randy
Lewan and Tim Lewan.
Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Frank Sweda.
  Bill was born on January 13, 1938, the son of Matthew and Anna (Paraschak)
Sweda in Lublin.
  He attended Lublin Grade School and graduated from Gilman High School in
1956.
  Bill attended Medford Teacher's College and graduated in 1958.
  He taught in Thorp until joining the U.S. Army and served for two years.
  After his service, Bill taught at Holloway Grade School and Pleasant Heights
in the Medford area.
  He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from UW-River Falls in 1966 and a
Master's Degree in Psychology, Guidance and Counseling at the University of
Colorado at Greeley in 1972.
  Bill taught at Colby Jr. /Sr. High School from 1967 until retiring in 1994. Bill
also was a coach, referee, umpire and drivers education instructor.

  Bill was united in marriage to Judith Stewart on August 20, 1966 at St.
Bernard's Catholic Church in Thorp.
  They divorced in 2005.
  He was a member of the Colby American Legion Post #266
for many years and recently joined the Lublin Post.
  He also was an avid hunter and enjoyed going to community events.
  Bill is survived by his three daughters:
Kristin (Steve) Wehrman of Chili; Holly Sweda of Greenwood and Jessica
Sweda of Colby; six siblings:
Frank Sweda, Katherine Bluemel, Harry Sweda, Nettie (Jim) Kowalczyk,
Pauline (Ray) Lewan and Don Sweda.
  He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Eloise Sweda; nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; eight siblings:
Andrew Sweda, Mary Terlecki, John Sweda, Ella Kaye, Helen Janetzke, Julie
Roback, Steve Sweda, and Joe Sweda.

Teresa E. Sromek, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Artisan Senior Living in Middleton.

  She was born on July 19, 1923, in Duluth, Minn., the daughter of John and Frances (Klejevska) Kuras.   After graduating from Saints Peter and Paul Girl's Cathedral in 1941, Teresa worked as an assistant nurse at St. Mary's Hospital until 1949. She was united in marriage to Edward Sromek on Sept. 25, 1948. They moved from the Duluth area and settled in rural Gilman, Wis., where they owned Ruby Store and farmed from 1949 until her retirement in 1975. Teresa then moved into the Village of Gilman where she worked part-time at Gilman Nursing Home for four years, followed by 16 years at Zastrow Care Center. During this time she earned a certificate to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. After full retirement in 1998, Teresa enjoyed hobbies such as gardening and baking. She was active in the Ladies Church Guild and Rosary Society. After the passing of her husband, Edward, Teresa moved to the Thorp, Wis., area for a short while and then to the Madison area where she was under the care of her son, George and daughter-in-law, Marilyn.

  Teresa is survived by her children, John (Debbie), Susan (Pete), and George (Marilyn); grandchildren, Tony (Jenni), Teri Lea (Jeremy), Christina, Thomas (Shayla), Lana (Jimmy), Jordan (Allison), Alex (Katie), and Catherine (Josh); and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward; brothers, John G., Thomas, Joseph, and Felix; and sister, Frances Nehl.

  Funeral services will be held at SAINTS PETER AND PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 315 E. Davlin St., Gilman, at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2016. Burial will be at Meadowbrook Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Memorials in Teresa's name may be gifted to Agrace HospiceCare, Fitchburg. The family wishes to thank Artisan Senior Living and Agrace HospiceCare, especially Terri and Susan for their wonderful care and support.
